Tour Flat Rock Playhouse’s Garden
Jul 29 all-day
Flat Rock Playhouse

Despite the cancellation of the Flat Rock Playhouse’s 2020 season due to COVID-19, folks are being encouraged to take time to enjoy the lush gardens on the grounds of the historic campus.

With a QR code reader on any smartphone, garden visitors can tap into information about the individual plants wherever they’re standing. The codes direct the phone to webpages on a Muddy Sneakers site that the garden volunteers control.

The Master Gardners have been hard at work adding some tech to our gardens! QR codes can now be found on the 62 garden beds that make up the Playhouse gardens. Visitors can use their smartphones to learn more about the plants they are seeing. Congratulations and thank you to Tamsin Allpress and all of our gardening volunteers who work to keep our gardens beautiful! Photo by volunteer Mary Smit

Fast-turnaround COVID-19 testing to Spartanburg County businesses
Jul 29 @ 12:28 am – 1:28 am
Our fast-turnaround testing partnership with Luxor Scientific allows Spartanburg County businesses to receive employee COVID-19 test results within 48 hours at a reduced price of $85. Send your employee to the lab, host a testing day at your company (min. 50 employees), or collect on-site samples to send to the lab.
Luxor will tailor agreements for each business, defining the scope of services and how they intend to interact with individuals.

The Spartanburg Chamber’s Bringing Back the Burg Business Recovery Task Force today announced an initiative to provide fast-turnaround COVID-19 testing to Spartanburg County businesses.

Through an exclusive partnership with Luxor Scientific, participating businesses are guaranteed to receive employees’ COVID-19 test results within 48 hours and at a 52% discount.

“Access to rapid testing is key to combating COVID-19 in the workplace,” said Allen Smith, President & CEO of the Spartanburg Chamber. “Long turnaround times for employee test results cost businesses time and money. This partnerships saves Spartanburg businesses both.”

Businesses interested in participating must visit BringingBacktheBurg.com to sign up. Once confirmed, businesses can take advantage of three types of testing.

  1. Businesses can send employees directly to Luxor Scientific’s lab at 1327 Miller Road, Greenville
  2. Businesses with at least 50 participants can bring Luxor Scientific on-site to test employees
  3. A qualified on-site nurse can collect samples and send to Luxor Scientific’s lab

The Spartanburg Chamber is also providing a pool of financial assistance to further reduce testing costs as needs arise.

Luxor Scientific’s viral testing is FDA-approved, with sample collection done via nasal swab and results coming in 24-48 hours. Luxor will tailor agreements for each business, defining the scope of services and how they intend to interact with individuals. Business representatives are encouraged to contact Luxor directly after signing up through the Chamber at 864-568-8940.

“Testing speed and accuracy, paired with strong safe workplace programs, have proven to be the keys in minimizing the spread of the COVID-19 virus. We’re very pleased that the community recognizes this, and to be able to help,” said Jay Flanagan, Luxor Scientific Chief Strategy Officer.

Bullington Gardens

The Fairy trail is open Monday thru Saturday, 9am-4pm. We encourage all visitors to be patient as there will be limits to the number of people allowed on the trail at the same time. While the trail is outdoors, there are some small spaces and we want to ensure our guests and fairies are safe. Please practice appropriate social distancing and bring a mask in case. Masks are not required, but are considerate in a close area. Our restrooms are not open to the public at this time. Please make arrangements prior to visiting.

Rules of the trail:

Do not move or rearrange fairy displays. The fairies are very fond of their own decorating.

Do not leave trash on the trail. Fairies do not like litter in their town.

Please ensure children and pets are supervised at all times. Dogs and loud noises can scare the fairies into hiding.

Do not disturb wildlife or vegetation. The fairies depend on the vegetation to build their homes.

The trail is one way only. Please stay on the trail at all times.

Keith talks about his fondness for the music of Antonín Dvořák and about his relationship with the Czech Philharmonic. The central piece for discussion is Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, “From the New World,” and the featured recording is of Václav Neumann conducting the Czech Philharmonic in a live performance from 1993.
