8th Annual Carolina High School & Academy Race for Grace 5K Takes Place Feb. 8

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Jan. 9, 2020 – The 8th Annual Carolina High School & Academy Trojan Race for Grace 5K will take place on Sat., Feb. 8, from 9 a.m. – noon. The cross country-style foot race around and near the school campus is open to the community, with proceeds from the event going towards the Grace Fund to support Carolina High School students and families in need of emergency financial assistance in times of crisis.

The Race for Grace 5K began in 2013, and was the fundraising idea of a former student who wanted to help another student battling cancer, as well as provide a relief fund for other students facing hardship. The event has carried on, with proceeds over the years going towards helping to pay electric and medical bills, funeral expenses, and assisting a family who lost everything in a house fire.

The event is fully supported by Carolina High School’s students and staff. Students in this year’s sports marketing class designed the event logo and marketing materials, as well as partnered with local businesses to secure sponsorship opportunities.

Fleet Feet will provide prizes to the top three male and female participants. The Greenville Triumph professional soccer team will also be on site at the event with family-friendly activities, including its 20-foot-tall giant inflatable velcro dart board game, and photos with its fully restored 1961 Triumph TR3A vehicle wrapped in the club’s colors and logos.

“The Race for Grace absolutely embodies our school motto of, “Whatever It Takes,” said Katie Smith, event director and instructional coach at Carolina High School & Academy. “This event is an amazing way for our students and staff to work together to help families in their own community who need it the most.”

Participants can register for the Trojan Race for Grace 5k at https://go-greenevents.com/raceforgrace. The cost is $22.59 per participant. Race day registration is $25. Students may participate at a discounted rate of $12.59 by entering the code STUDENT during the online checkout process. All pre-registered participants will receive a free t-shirt.

The 8th Annual Race for Grace 5K sponsors include:
Sparkling Pearls Endowment
First Team Sports
Sully’s Steamers
OnTrack Greenville

Hunter Summey, Carolina High School & Academy alumnus and founder of the Race for Grace as a student, will join this year’s event as the race starter. Participant packet pick up is from 7:45 a.m. – 8:45 a.m. at Carolina High School’s football field on race day.
