Greenville Triumph, The Blood Connection Partner to Kick-Off 2022 Season
Mar 18 @ 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Hampton Station

It’s time once again for the Upstate to community to roll up their sleeves and join the Lifesaver League!  For the second year, The Blood Connection, the Upstate’s community blood center, will partner with The Greenville Triumph to promote blood donations across the Upstate.

The Blood Connection and the Greenville Triumph began their partnership in 2021, collecting more than 150 units of blood across four separate drives.  One unit of blood has the power to save three lives – meaning blood donors with the Greenville Triumph potentially impacted 450 lives.

“The Triumph is proud to partner with The Blood Connection. In any community, blood donation is critical, and we look forward to bringing more awareness towards the cause,” said Megan Kolak, Senior Vice President of the Greenville Triumph Soccer Club.

This year, the Triumph and TBC will kick off their partnership and season with a blood drive on March 18 at Hampton Station from 12 p.m. – 6 p.m. As a thank you for donating, all blood donors will receive an exclusive Hummel blood donor jersey and a $20 eGift card.  Appointments can be made by going to thebloodconnection.org/triumph, but walk-ins are also welcome.

2022 Triumph players and coaches will be available to meet fans starting at 6 p.m.  Also, during the event, Triumph season ticket holders will be able to pick up their season tickets.

Spartanburg businesses 31 days of awareness to support Developmental Disabilities Month+ the Charles Lea Center
Mar 19 all-day
Various Spartanburg Businesses

For the second year in a row, local Spartanburg businesses will participate in 31 days of awareness to support Developmental Disabilities Month in support of the Charles Lea Center Foundation. In 1987, the year that the March National Disabilities Awareness Month proclamation called for people to provide understanding, encouragement and opportunities to help persons with disabilities to lead productive and fulfilling lives, the Charles Lea Center Foundation was established to support the Center and its mission to improve the quality of life for those with disabilities and special needs

Last year the business community rallied to help raise nearly $30,000 to support the Foundation, and 60 plus local businesses are planning a range of community offerings with proceeds benefiting the Foundation this March.

“We are overwhelmed by the response of our ‘Community Champions’, over 60 local merchants who are participating this month by either choosing a day(s), week or the entire month to host what we are calling a “give back” day(s) to the CLC Foundation,” said Marisa Cecil – CLC Foundation President. “Some folks may not know that on average it costs $70 a day or $14,500 a year to support each community member the Charles Lea Center supports.”

Serving the greater Spartanburg area for over 45 years, The Charles Lea Center supports 1,500 community members with disabilities and special needs in Spartanburg County each year by providing a range of services to over 75 locations in the County.

The FR8yard will be back supporting CLCF during their St. Patty’s Day Celebration on March 19th with 10% of proceeds from the day benefiting the Foundation.

Community members are encouraged to patronize the stores, companies, and organizations like ‘Two Doors Down’, a retail store on Main Street, participating in the March awareness month who are making “Dreams Possible” for the individuals with special needs and disabilities right here in Spartanburg County. The Spartanburg Science Center

The Spartanburg Science Center, Spartanburg Area Conservancy, and the USC Upstate Foundation joined forces in January of 2021 to offer a comprehensive STEAM program to children in the community. ‘Seeing Through Their Eyes’ offered students ages 3-18 an opportunity to learn about and document the nature they saw around them during the pandemic, with the goal of keeping kids engaged, off screens, outdoors and educated during the winter months.

Thanks to the generosity of the Spartanburg County Foundation, the Mary Black Foundation, the USC Upstate Foundation, the EMK Foundation and the City of Spartanburg, the program provided 325 take home kits with a disposable camera, a nature guide to direct the photos, and suggested activities. The guide led kids down the Cottonwood Trail, to the animal room in the Science Center, and to the USC Upstate Arboretum to photograph local plants and animals, learn about patterns in nature, and more.
