About the Workshop
Time travel doesn’t exist…yet. Until it does, it’s up to writers to explore how and why people travel through time. In this 90 minute hands-on workshop, participants will explore the elements of writing compelling time travel fiction for young adults.
Participants will:
-Learn the basic rules of time travel (there really are some)
-Generate new material
-Craft engaging scenes
-Engage in teamwork exercises
No prior writing experience required.
About the Author
Mickey Dubrow is the author of Always Agnes and American Judas. For over thirty years, he wrote television promos, marketing presentations, and scripts for various clients including Cartoon Network, TNT Latin America, and HGTV. His short stories and essays have appeared in Prime Number Magazine, The Good Men Project, The Signal Mountain Review, Full Grown People, and McSweeney’s Internet Tendency. His first novel, American Judas, was a Finalist for the 2020 Georgia Author of the Year Award in the category of First Novel. He lives in Atlanta with his wife, author Jessica Handler.
Main Event Greenville located at 225 Entertainment Blvd, Greenville, SC, is missing a pivotal part of their upcoming opening. The final shipment of bowling pins to the nearly 50,000-square-foot center is lost, and Main Event is calling on all Greenville residents to help find these very valuable items.
Main Event, one of the fastest growing family entertainment brands in the country, is nearing the official grand opening of its 57th location nationwide. To be ready for opening day, these pins need to be found and we need your help to do it. Main Event will be releasing new information and one clue per day about where the pins can be found on the webpage mainevent.com/greenvillelostpins from Monday, June 26 through Wednesday, July 5. Main Event is offering an invitation to its VIP event for four people as well as free games for a year to the first person to find each pin. The person who finds the golden pin will even win Main Event for Life!
“Lost Pins is a great way for us to introduce ourselves to the community, and it’s a fun activity for Greenville to get a first taste of the Main Event experience,” said says General Manager Danny Glover. “We’re all about creating interactive experience for people to connect and make memories, and Lost Pins is an extension of that.”
The Greenville location will have endless entertainment and activities, including laser tag, video games, virtual reality and billiards, and 22 state-of-the-art bowling lanes, with unique technology and VIP seating. Join Dr. Janet Lafrancois certified yoga therapist and Iyengar yoga teacher at the Gibbs Cancer Center in Spartanburg to practice basic to advanced yoga with a focus on cancer patients and survivors. Attendees are welcome to bring their own mats, blocks, and other yoga tools to the class. If this is your first time attending a mat and block will be provided for you to use. Registration is required so that we can make space for all attendees.

Yoga Nidra, or Yogic Sleep, is a guided meditation that uses body sensing, breath awareness, guided imagery and other practices to bring you through the five layers of consciousness and find healing and rejuvenation on a deep level. Two Spartanburg County nonprofits both serving those with little or no income and no insurance – Spartanburg Shares Medical Loan Closet and Help for Our Elderly – are teaming together for an annual pickleball charity tournament Saturday, July 15 at 9am at the Spartanburg Athletic Club. The tournament will benefit both charities. Participants can choose between a round-robin or doubles/mixed doubles format. There are 12 courts, and each person pays $28 to register. The pickleball tournament is seeking sponsors. Sponsorship levels range from Gold, Silver, Bronze and a $100 sponsor level. The $2,000 Gold Sponsorship includes a display banner, a logo on all advertisements, three signs, a table for a representative and four entry tickets. The $1,000 Silver Sponsorship includes a display banner, a logo on all advertisements, two signs and three entry tickets. The $500 Bronze Sponsorship includes a display banner, one sign and two entry tickets. The $100 Sponsorship includes one sign at the event.

The oldest and most common advice poets hear is “show don’t tell.” But what does that mean, exactly? What is the difference between showing and telling? Why is “showing” better? Most of us write poems to tell readers something, to share our ideas. Many poets—from as far back as John Donne to as recent as Stephen Dunn–do a lot of telling in their poems. So why are we always advised not to tell? In this workshop we will discuss these questions. In the process, we will look at a few well-known poems to see how–or if—they show rather than tell, and we will do some writing exercises that may help us arrive at some conclusions about this persistent advice.
This workshop is open to writers of all skill levels and is a fun way to find inspiration from a new prompt or revise current work. It is hosted by the Friends of Carl Sandburg at Connemara and will use Microsoft Teams for the virtual connection. Sign up to attend the workshop at workshop link
Eric Nelson’s most recent poetry collection, Horse Not Zebra, won both a Da Vinci Eye Award for cover art and an Honorable Mention in Poetry from the 2023 Eric Hoffer Book Awarda. His poems have appeared in many journals, including Poetry, The Sun, The Oxford American, and The Missouri Review. Among his awards are the 2014 Gival Press Poetry Book Award for Some Wonder; the 2004 X.J. Kennedy Poetry Award for Terrestrials, chosen by Maxine Kumin; the Arkansas Poetry Award for The Interpretation of Waking Life (1991); the Split Oak Press Chapbook Award for The Twins (2009); the Georgia Author of the Year Award (2005), and fellowships to the Hambidge Center for the Arts and the Virginia Center for Creative Arts. He taught writing and literature courses at Georgia Southern University for twenty-six years before retiring in 2015 and moving to Asheville, where he lives with his wife, Stephanie Tames, and teaches in the Great Smokies Writing Program. www.ericnelsonpoet.com.
