For over 65 years, a select group of college-age performers participate in an intensive summer at Flat Rock Playhouse that includes on-stage performance and mentoring from FRP professionals. They also perform Rootabaga stories four times a week at the Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site and take original educational programs out to schools in four area counties. Apprentices come from prestigious theatre schools across the country and are chosen from more than 1000 students who audition.
Apprentice graduates have gone on to major professional engagements on and off-Broadway, on national tours, and in regional theatres. Notable alumni who have played on Broadway include Michael Luwoye (Hamilton in Hamilton, An American Musical), Adam Kaplan (A Bronx Tale), Ginna Claire Mason (Glinda in Wicked), Jared Goldsmith (Dear Evan Hansen) and Ben Hope (Once).

Join Dr. Janet Lafrancois certified yoga therapist and Iyengar yoga teacher at the Gibbs Cancer Center in Spartanburg to practice basic to advanced yoga with a focus on cancer patients and survivors. Attendees are welcome to bring their own mats, blocks, and other yoga tools to the class. If this is your first time attending a mat and block will be provided for you to use. Registration is required so that we can make space for all attendees.
Yoga Nidra, or Yogic Sleep, is a guided meditation that uses body sensing, breath awareness, guided imagery and other practices to bring you through the five layers of consciousness and find healing and rejuvenation on a deep level. Bring a blanket/yoga mat, a pillow (bring two if you have lower back pain), and another blanket to cover yourself while lying down. Led by Holistic Health Practitioner Sarah Troy.

Enjoy the quiet of the Park after the gates have closed at this outdoor class led by Namaste in Nature. Enjoy a practice suitable for all levels of expertise as you overlook Lake Lure and Hickory Nut Gorge. You won’t find a view like this in any studio!
Two Spartanburg County nonprofits both serving those with little or no income and no insurance – Spartanburg Shares Medical Loan Closet and Help for Our Elderly – are teaming together for an annual pickleball charity tournament Saturday, July 15 at 9am at the Spartanburg Athletic Club. The tournament will benefit both charities. Participants can choose between a round-robin or doubles/mixed doubles format. There are 12 courts, and each person pays $28 to register. The pickleball tournament is seeking sponsors. Sponsorship levels range from Gold, Silver, Bronze and a $100 sponsor level. The $2,000 Gold Sponsorship includes a display banner, a logo on all advertisements, three signs, a table for a representative and four entry tickets. The $1,000 Silver Sponsorship includes a display banner, a logo on all advertisements, two signs and three entry tickets. The $500 Bronze Sponsorship includes a display banner, one sign and two entry tickets. The $100 Sponsorship includes one sign at the event.
Spartanburg Shares is a nonprofit organization lending durable medical equipment for 90 days to anyone with proof of Spartanburg County residence. Spartanburg Shares is located at 137 S. Dean St., Spartanburg, SC 29303.
Help For Our Elderly assists with supplementing its clients’ incomes with everyday necessities. Its mission is to service, supplement and enrich the lives of the elderly, disabled and infirm and their families in Spartanburg, Cherokee and Union Counties. Help For Our Elderly is located at 2375 E. Main St., Unit A-311, Spartanburg, SC 29307.

Cornhole for a Cause Tournament
Get your bag-tossing muscles ready! During the Tailgate Trot event, we’ll feature a Cornhole for a Cause Tournament to raise money for our HCFC Fund-a-Need. PLEASE NOTE: If you wish to participate, the entry fee is $30 (in addition to the cost of your Tailgate event ticket).
The Cornhole for a Cause Tournament will be managed by Caitlyn Colson, Certified Ambassador of the American Cornhole Association. It will be a blind draw for teams and prizes will be awarded to 1st and 2nd place teams. All proceeds benefit Hope Center for Children. View the American Cornhole Association’s Official Rules.

On Friday, August 11th, Hope Center for Children will turn Indigo Hall into the ultimate tailgate party with its Twelfth Annual Tailgate Trot. Festivities start at 6:00 p.m. and end at 10 p.m. Guests must be 21 or older. Your participation will support our vitally important work to Protect Children & Support Families.
Admission is $75 per person. Group discounts are available.

This year’s Tailgate Trot will host the American Cornhole Association’s Cornhole-for-a-Cause competition and other games and feature special guests, a silent auction, raffles, food stations, beer and wine, and signature tailgate cocktails. The well-known Carolina Coast Band will provide live music.

Yoga is back at Headquarters! We have new instructors but the same low $2 fee for our fitness classes. This one’s suitable for all ages and abilities. You’re welcome to bring your mat with you, but if you don’t have one, a limited supply of community mats are available.

CornerFocus cordially invites you to tee off at the 1st Annual Triple-P Golf Tournament held at the premiere Club at Brookstone on August 23, 2023.
$125 donation
Each golfer plays 18 holes of golf and includes a cart, lunch, door prizes, boxing memorabilia auction, 1st and 2nd place, longest drive and closest to pin awards.

Join Ten at the Top and the Urban League of the Upstate for an informal networking event to be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. on Friday, September 8 at the George Dean Johnson, Jr. College of Business and Economics at USC Upstate.

Local band The Grateful Brothers announces their upcoming benefit concert in support of the nonprofit organization Loaves & Fishes. The event will take place on September 15th at The Radio Room, one of the city’s premier live music venues. Doors will open at 7:00
PM, with the show starting at 8:00 PM.
Proudly presented by The Radio Room Greenville, this year’s lineup includes The Grateful Brothers, and Matt Fassas Trip.
The Grateful Brothers is a highly regarded band known for their captivating performances paying homage to two legendary rock bands, the Grateful Dead and the Allman Brothers. This special concert will showcase their exceptional musical talent while raising funds and awareness for a worthy cause.
Doors open at 7:00 PM, and the show starts at 8:00 PM. Tickets available now. $15 in advance, $20 at the door.
There are a LOT of fun and philanthropic events in Greenville, but “if you get confused, just listen to the music play.” like The Grateful Dead said.
Attendees can look forward to an evening of soulful music, vibrant energy, and an opportunity to support a worthwhile cause. In addition to the concert, there will be various opportunities for patrons to contribute to Loaves & Fishes, including a raffle and t-shirt sales.
