Downtown trolleys add to the excitement and enjoyment of Greenville’s Main Street experience. The red and blue open-air trolleys offer a vintage look and feel complete with a cow catcher on the front and wooden bench seats inside. Trolleys are wheelchair accessible and are equipped with bicycle racks.

Wild Art Sculpture Showcase

NC Arboretum

The North Carolina Arboretum is going wild for art and nature in 2021 with Wild Art! On view April 1 through September 26, this outdoor sculpture exhibition features works by 17 local and national artists drawing inspiration from the natural environment. Situated throughout the Arboretum’s spacious, open-air gardens, the show offers guests a doorway into the wild world from the comfort and safety of cultivated landscapes transformed by art.

The 18 sculptures on display represent a variety of approaches to the theme of “wild art,” from the literal to the abstract, and are crafted from a diverse array of materials that will delight and inspire. Let your imagination take you on a wild journey into the world of plants and animals near and far with Wild Art at The North Carolina Arboretum.

The exhibit is available to all guests during normal Arboretum hours, and there is no admission cost to view the sculptures beyond our usual parking fee of $16 per personal vehicle.

Our fun-for-all-ages botanical model train displays invite you to experience our grounds in an engaging new way. Located in the Conservatory in the Walled Garden, the displays feature replicas of structures connected with Biltmore and its founder George Vanderbilt. Each beautifully executed piece was handcrafted from such natural elements as leaves, bark, and twigs.

In compliance with state and local mandates related to COVID-19, all guests must enter the Conservatory via the ADA entrance in the back and follow a one-way route.

13th Annual Flock to the Rock

Join Hatcher Garden in this all day celebration of the vibrant art community in Spartanburg County.

Last year this event got cancelled due to the pandemic, but we are hoping this fall will be a better time. Scattered around the garden, over 40 artists are scheduled to demonstrate and sell their various finished arts. Musicians are scheduled to perform throughout the day. Children’s activities are planned as well. Food trucks will be there to provide food. Come join us for this exciting event! More details to come as this event unfolds.

WE ARE OPEN!

After a year of being closed, the Hub City Railroad Museum is open again. Come by on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10am to 2pm and check out our recently added display about the Pullman Company. We also have a new order of tee shirts that have just arrived.

There are some restrictions in place due to the virus. We will request that you wear a mask and we will be limiting the number of visitors at one time. We will be periodically sanitizing the museum, especially frequently touched items. Your understanding is appreciated.

The caboose is still undergoing a major renovation, but there has be significant progress made. Stop by and peek in to see how the construction is going.

We will be closed on May 15, since many of our volunteers will be at the Easley Train Show at the Rock Springs Baptist Church. We will have tables at the show and several volunteers will be involved with operating model train layouts.

One major step back to normal!

The bilingual exhibition (English and Spanish) is a unique and educational experience that emphasizes the importance of reading and the significance of fairy tales throughout history. From an African jungle to a giant’s castle, visitors explore larger-than-life pages of six of the world’s most famous fairy tales: Anansi and the Talking Melon (Ghana), Beauty and the Beast (France), Jack and the Beanstalk (England), Cinderella (France, China), The Elves and the Shoemaker (Germany), and Lon Po Po (aka: Little Red Riding Hood, China).

Entering the exhibit via a magical portal, visitors will be surrounded by an enchanting storybook kingdom. Each tale is brought to life through its own large-scale environment, interactive components, and costumes.

With six storybook settings designed for children ages 3-10 years old and their caregivers, Once Upon A Time will take traditional story time to a new interactive level. The result is a three-dimensional, fully developed world that resonates with young visitors, while still appealing to the grown-ups in their lives who are just as fond of the beloved stories that were a major part of their own childhood.

51st Annual Girl Scout Day

Girl Scouts are invited to join the park’s education staff for a fun-filled learning adventure on Grandfather Mountain. Participants can enjoy special scout activities and presentations. 54th Annual World Championship Chili Cook Off

The International Chili Society (ICS) has announced that the Burroughs and Chapin Pavilion Place will be the official event site for the 54th Annual World Championship Chili Cook-Off (WCCC) in Myrtle Beach, S.C. From September 17-19, 2021, WCCC event organizers will transform this central location on Myrtle Beach’s Grand Strand into a chili lover’s paradise.

The event site will include numerous built-in activities such as a Family Fun Zone where guests can participate in family-friendly challenges; a relaxing beer garden that will offer an array of different craft and special brews; the main stage that will host a slew of activities, including a hot pepper eating contest and live music; and the ever-popular People’s Choice Chili Competition, which allows event attendees to sample and vote for numerous chili dishes.
