Women, Life, and Science
Jun 16 @ 5:00 pm
J Hudson Booksellers

We have partnered with the local organization Women, Life, and Science to host monthly science cafes, featuring speakers from various scientific communities and practices. This is a free event that takes place in the M. Judson Gallery.

This month’s talk will be from Lynne Becker, MSPH, the CEO and Founder of Power of Patients:
“Lessons learned from a Caregiver turned Entrepreneur in Health Tech.”

Women, Life and Science is really just that – women leaders, living a full life, have a professional career in science or peripherally, have been involved in the industry. We are seasoned knowledge experts in leadership, mentorship, entrepreneurship, women’s health, philanthropic and general life experiences. We have stories to tell and knowledge to impart. We overcame challenges, uncertainties and continue to navigate the ever evolving professional and personal balance. We share in kindness and we share openly. We are grateful for many things. We have little regrets but easily forgive ourselves for our missteps. Women, Life and Science is the open forum for dialogue, a think-tank of professional women paving the way for future women leaders. Women are stronger collectively and when we walk in unison, our success becomes ten-fold.

Ales & Tales
Jun 27 @ 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm
M. Judson Booksellers

Storytelling is not just entertainment: it’s a fundamental part of being human. Ales & Tales is a live storytelling open mic, akin to The Moth, but without the competitive aspect. Tellers take the mic to share personal stories, true-as-remembered, in six minutes or less with no notes. There are few rules: beyond the time limit and truth requirement, stories must follow the night’s theme, which is typically a one- to two-word prompt with LOTS of flexibility (like Dirt, Winter, Sunshine or Rigid).

Stories don’t have to be funny, but they can be. Stories should have an arc – a beginning, middle, and end – and perhaps a lesson snuck in there, too. Food and drinks, including alcohol, will be available for purchase; and the crowd is always friendly. Come relate to strangers, and turn them into pals!

Theme: Misunderstanding

Little misunderstandings can lead to big changes. Maybe you misunderstood directions, and your misdirection brought you face to face with a stranger who changed your life. Maybe you misunderstood another’s intentions, and your relationship did a 180 because of it. We don’t all know everything, and sometimes, that can lead to some pretty holy-crap moments. Let’s hear about yours!

This event takes place in the 4th floor Gallery and has a cash bar.
