The 2021 Preserve Our Parks Fund Drive
Nov 1 all-day
Online

Preserve our Parks

America’s national parks belong to all of us. They connect us to the natural world and root us to our nation’s rich and fascinating history.

National parks exist because people had the foresight to protect the wonder of these unique places for future generations. The parks are a legacy that has been handed down to us; it is up to us to prove that we are worthy of that legacy by continuing to protect and preserve these iconic locations for the generations that come after us.

That’s the idea behind our annual Preserve Our Parks Fund Drive. In order to provide the resources for the crucial work that’s needed in our parks in 2021, we must raise $1,332,000 before December 31.

As an added incentive, when you donate to the Preserve Our Parks Fund Drive, you are able to send a beautiful eCard featuring our national parks to whomever you want. Let your friends, colleagues, and loved ones know how important our national parks are to you.

Celebrating Unsung Heroes: Nominations Requested
Nov 1 @ 8:00 am – 8:00 pm
Online

This year, Ten at the Top will celebrate Upstate Unsung Heroes during a virtual event on Wednesday, November 18th. We are excited to honor deserving heroes and celebrate their commitment to the communities they serve.

We are asking YOU to nominate someone who has stood out to you or your colleagues during the pandemic as an Unsung Hero. This person has worked tirelessly to ensure their community is taken care of during the pandemic, without seeking praise or recognition. This could be anyone from a healthcare worker, teacher, grocery stocker, sanitation worker, city employee to a truck driver, delivery worker, mail carrier, community volunteer and many more. In addition to their service as an Upstate Unsung Hero, the only requirement for nomination is that the nominee must live or serve their vital community function within one of the following ten counties: Abbeville, Anderson, Cherokee, Greenville, Greenwood, Laurens, Oconee, Pickens, Spartanburg or Union.

Everyone nominated will receive recognition as an Upstate Unsung Hero, but a selection committee will choose one special Unsung Hero per county to be honored as part of the November 18th event.

*All nominations must be submitted by Wednesday, October 14th at 5:00 p.m. Honorees will be notified in advance and invited to attend the day-of live streaming event on November 18th from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. If you have any questions, please email Murray Dorn at [email protected].

Portrait Sessions Give Back To The Flat Rock Playhouse
Nov 1 @ 11:00 am – 3:00 pm
Porch Portraits by Suzanne

Porch-Portraits-Cover.jpg

Best of all, Porch Portraits by Suzanne will donate $15 of every session to our great friends at Flat Rock Playhouse. My goal is to raise $15,000 for the Playhouse by the end of the year so any money over and above the price of $65 will go straight to them.

Perhaps most exciting, an extremely generous Playhouse donor has agreed to a MATCHING GIFT CAMPAIGN up to $36,000.18! This incredibly generous donation draws on the magic of Chai, the Jewish belief that multiples of 18 bring good luck. Meaning that every session booked will result in at least $30 for the wonderful folks at Flat Rock Playhouse.

For decades, Flat Rock Playhouse has been opening their collective hearts and sharing their fabulous talents to bring joy and entertainment to western North Carolina. This is an opportunity to show our gratitude at a time when they really need our support.

Together, let’s make magic happen! Help us kick off this campaign by contributing today.

Wicked

So much happened before Dorothy dropped in.

Wicked, Greenville’s most ‘popular’ musical, looks at what happened in the Land of Oz…but from a different angle. Long before Dorothy arrives, there is another young woman, born with emerald-green skin — smart, fiery, misunderstood, and possessing an extraordinary talent. When she meets a bubbly blonde who is exceptionally popular, their initial rivalry turns into the unlikeliest of friendships…until the world decides to call one “good,” and the other one “wicked.”

From the first electrifying note to the final breathtaking moment, Wicked — the untold true story of the Witches of Oz — transfixes audiences with its wildly inventive story that USA Today cheers is “a complete triumph! An original musical that will make you laugh, cry, and think.”

This year’s Boo in the Zoo will feature 15 trick-or-treat stations, spooky decorations and Halloween-themed areas, including Dragon Alley, a princess castle and an extinct species graveyard. Attendees are asked to bring reusable Halloween bags for trick-or-treating.

With safety being a priority, the zoo has added hand-sanitizing stations for guests and signage that outlines best social distancing practices. The zoo will also limit gatherings at entrances, exits, exhibits and along pathways. All guests over the age of 2 are required to wear face coverings while at the zoo.

Sherlock Holmes’ most spine-tingling mystery is filled with suspense, humor, and terror.  Sir Henry is heir to the vast Baskerville fortune, a legacy that comes with a family curse:  death at the fangs of a demonic hound.  While mysterious lights signal Baskerville Hall and the hound terrifies the countryside, suspicion falls on sinister servants, butterfly collectors, ladies in distress and escaped convicts.  HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES is Conan Doyle’s greatest mystery!
