We need your help controlling invasive species at Anderson’s beloved Rocky River Nature Park!
About the park: This free and publicly accessible park is a 131.9-acre property that was protected in 2016 in partnership with Anderson University. Throughout the park, visitors enjoy a matrix of bottomland forest and beaver-maintained wetlands which hosts over 168 species of passerine and migratory birds throughout the year. A population of the rare Swamp Rabbit (Sylvilagus palustris) is also known to inhabit the floodplain forests of the park.
Workday activities: This year marks the second year of active habitat restoration at the park. The primary activity of this workday will involve removing invasive species such as invasive olive and Chinese Privet to enhance foraging and nesting areas for native wildlife and migratory species.
What to wear and bring: Participants should wear long pants, close-toed shoes and gear that you don’t mind getting dirty in. We will provide tools and gloves, but volunteers are more than welcome to bring their favorite gardening gloves, loppers or saws!

Come to Holliday Brewing’s first Craft Fair, Farmer’s Market and Pet Adoption event on Saturday April 26th in Inman SC. Shop for candles, spices, local honey, gourmet pet treats, human treats, body care items, and other local artisan offerings. Spartanburg Humane Society with be there for a pet adoption event. May is Mental Health Awareness Month and Spartanburg Area Mental Health Center and over 40 Community Partners are gathering together to provide the Spartanburg Community with Free Resources, Health & Wellness Screenings, Information about Mental Health and many other local services all at your fingertips for face-to-face connections to help you navigate the Resources of Spartanburg with ease. Food trucks & Face Painting PLUS Free Gift Bags while supplies last and Door Prizes. Come make some connections, meet your local providers and gather resources & opportunities to support your community, neighbors, family & yourself. We hope to see you soon. Together we can turn Mental Health Awareness into Action because Mental Health Matters.
Join us on Saturday, May 10th, from 1-5 pm for a multi-artist pop-up and shopping event, just in time for Mother’s Day! Garden Party, Ross Pottery, and Melissa Weiss Pottery will host Knook Ceramics, Maggie Boyd Ceramics, Kreh Mellick, Good Goodies, Of June, Crocodile Wine, and Camille Cogswell Baked Goods at Garden Party’s shop in West Asheville. Don’t miss this incredible gathering of artists and shops as we celebrate springtime and all the mothers in our lives!
To launch the nationwide Planet Fitness High School Summer Pass initiative, participating Planet Fitness clubs will host FREE open house events on Thursday, May 29, and Thursday, June 5 from 4 to 8 p.m.
These open house events encourage teens (ages 14-19) to prioritize their physical and mental health this summer with free gym access through August 31st. Come out and join Planet Fitness to meet the friendly staff, tour the facility and sign up for High School Summer Pass on-site. These open houses even offer parents special promotions for those interested in jumpstarting their own fitness journey.

It’s that time of the year again and excitement is in the air! Please join us for the Akanimo Cancer Foundation Annual 5K RUN/WALK event created to commemorate Akanimo’s birthday while raising funds to support childhood cancer research.
Akanimo Ekanem, born on June 13, 2007 & was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer called Desmoplastic Small Round Cell tumor (DSRCT) at 10 years old and battled bravely for 2 years and 2 months until Christmas Day, 2019. This is why we are passionate about childhood cancer research. This year, on what would have been Nimo’s 18th birthday, we call on you to be part of something extraordinary as we gather all over the world in our various communities to participate in this family and community event. We invite you to create a team in your location. You can also give to an individual team or the general team. It’s an event like no other, and we love that you are a part of something this phenomenal!
Every registration to this event will bring us closer to achieving our mission – raising money to support childhood cancer research. Together, we can work towards a world where no child dies of cancer.

The American Red Cross is excited to partner with WLOS News 13 and iHeart Radio for the 38th Annual Operation Blood Drive on Thursday, June 26th in Asheville, Hendersonville, Waynesville, Columbus, and Greenville, S.C.
“Generous blood donors are critical to ensuring lifesaving care is available the moment patients need it,” said Jerri Goldberg, Executive Director, Western North Carolina Chapter. “It’s important to have blood products on the shelves when every second counts.”
The need for blood doesn’t take a summer vacation — immediate access to blood products is a key part of safety throughout the summer and the entire year. Donors of all blood types are urged to schedule an appointment to give blood to ensure a stable blood supply for patients in need.
All presenting donors will receive an Operation Blood Drive T-shirt, while supplies last! Come to give and we’ll say thanks with a $15 Amazon.com Gift Card by email. What is QPR?
QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) Gatekeeper Training teaches you how to:

Gatekeepers can be anyone—parents, teachers, faith leaders, first responders, healthcare workers, and more.
Can’t make it? We offer QPR trainings year-round for schools, workplaces, and community groups.
Suicide prevention starts with all of us.
