The 13th annual Firefly Gathering will take place June 3-7, 2020 at Deerfields in Mills River, NC, just 30 minutes outside of Asheville.

We gather each summer to learn and celebrate the skills necessary to live with the Earth. Our family-friendly classes, experiential learning, and culture bring together folks of all ages.

Each day is full of workshops spanning wilderness survival skills to permaculture, plant identification to cooking over fire, cow milking to bowl carving, basket weaving to blacksmithing. Through our time together at Firefly, we not only share skills to connect to the land, we connect also with ourselves, one another, our ancestors, and our future generations.

Darrell Scott
Jun 13 @ 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm
Tryon Fine Arts Center

In 2017 and 2018 Darrell opened for and performed with the Zac Brown Band, but these days find him roaming his Tennessee wilderness acreage, hiking along the small river, and playing music. He often leads songwriting workshops to help people tell their own truths with their stories, and is as busy as always writing, producing, performing, and just plain fully immersing himself at the hips in life. The wordsmithing and craftsmanship of the songs that become timeless─although a lost cause for many who try to write them─ is far from a dying art, thanks to Darrell’s work. He is more so existing creatively at levels we just don’t fathom anymore. He mines and cultivates the everyday moment, taking the rote, menial, mundane, and allowing it to be surreal, ever poignant, and candidly honest, lilting, blooming, and resonating. The words he fosters allow us to make sense of the world, what is at stake here, and our place in it. And ultimately, Darrell knows the sole truth of life is that love is all that matters, that we don’t always get it right, but that’s the instinctive and requisite circuitous allure of things, why we forever chase it, and why it is held sacred.

Volunteer: Host a Food Drive
Jun 21 all-day
varies

Every day, 50 million Americans struggle with hunger. For thousands of families in our community, supplemental groceries help them stretch their budget and stay healthy. TOTAL Ministries distributes food to over 750 people in Spartanburg County every month. It takes a lot of food to keep our shelves stocked! Gather your friends, family, or church / civic / corporate group to collect pantry staples & shelf-stable foods.

TOTAL Ministries will drop off barrels when you host a food drive at your place of business, school, church, etc. We would love to have a team of up to 15 people come stock our food pantry with food you’ve collected. If that doesn’t suit, we will be glad to pick up the barrels when your food drive is complete.

Volunteers must be at least 15 years old or accompanied by a parent or guardian to help in the food pantry. There is no age limit to organize or participate in a food drive!
