In light of the challenges presented by COVID-19, we have made the decision to change up GAF for the 2020 season — with a focus on a virtual appreciation event throughout the month of September and no in-person festival the weekend of September 25th – 27th. The recreational releases on the Cascades and Upper Nantahala are still scheduled as normal.

The ONLY Renn. Faire in the Southeast open at night! Greenville, South Carolina’s indoor and outdoor event for music, fantasy, mythology, and magical fun! The Greenville Renaissance Faire draws over 2,000 people in its two-day celebration with music, comedy, dance and feats of daring and drama. This year’s theme is STEAMPUNK ADVENTURES- and there will be a costume contest with several categories! 70+ vendors with unique wares, food & drink, as well as Wine, Ales & such provided by Community Tap! Plenty of activities & games for kids of every age. FREE PARKING! We will have discount packages available on-line, so take advantage of our 2-day passes and enjoy Friday evening’s fiery exhibitions & special entertainment, and come back for Saturday events. Also, there are Volunteer Opportunities! This is a beloved smaller Faire that prides itself on providing a quality experience at affordable prices- perfect for a lovely, stress-free Fall Weekend.

The annual Upstate Hispanic Heritage Festival, a cultural celebration that highlights Spanish-speaking countries around the world, kicks off virtually this weekend on the website for Asociación Hispano-Americana de Mujeres.

The festival is also for a good cause — it raises college scholarship funds for high school students of Hispanic descent in the Upstate.

In spring 2014, Chapman Cultural Center launched a community-wide initiative called Spartanburg Soaring! to encourage creativity, promote healthy outdoor activity, and to build civic pride. Using kites as a common theme, Spartanburg Soaring! engaged cultural curiosity and promoted active play through activities and events all across the city. The kite festival takes place in Barnet Park and around the Chapman Cultural Center each spring when hundreds of colorful kites fill the skies above Spartanburg. Every year, the festival grows, so be sure to attend this year and make Spartanburg Soaring! International Kite Festival the highest-flying event yet!

The festival is free and open to all, including the many international kite flyers who have come from Europe, Asia, Canada, and across the United States to join the fun. Kites will be available for purchase or you can bring a kite from home.
