How can a writer begin a story or get unstuck when they are in the middle of a draft? In this workshop, we will look specifically at (very short) stories to discover what captivates and arrests our attention and what resonates with a reader long after the last line is read. After we discuss examples in class you will be then given a series of writing prompts. Come ready to write and be inspired! Students will produce writing to start a new story or find fresh avenues into a work already in progress. You will receive in-class feedback from the instructor and your classmates. This class can work for fiction and non-fiction writers.
This virtual workshop will be held on Zoom on Wednesdays, June 5, 12, 19, & 26 at 6:00 ET.
Libby Flores‘s writing has appeared in One Story Magazine, The Kenyon Review, Gagosian Quarterly, American Short Fiction, Ploughshares, Post Road Magazine, McSweeney’s, Tin House /The Open Bar, The Guardian, and The Los Angeles Review of Books. She is the Associate Publisher at BOMB Magazine and the 2024 guest fiction editor of the Bennington Review. She has taught creative writing workshops for the Sackett Writing Workshop, Tin House, One Story, Hub City Writers Project, Bennington College, and PEN America. She is currently a visiting faculty member at Bennington College. She lives in Brooklyn, but will always be a Texan. Libby is represented by Sarah Bowlin at Aevitas Creative Management. You can find her at libbyflores.com.

The BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by TD SYNNEX is the only tournament on the Korn Ferry Tour where amateurs and celebrities are grouped with Korn Ferry Tour professionals in a three-day better-ball competition over two courses. Amateurs, celebrities and professionals rotate between the two courses, Thornblade Club, and The Carolina Country Club with the 12 lowest scoring amateur teams, four lowest scoring celebrity teams advancing to play Saturday’s final round at Thornblade Club. The lowest 65 pros (and ties) will play on Saturday and Sunday at Thornblade Club.
Please note: Play will be at The Carolina Country Club on Thursday and Friday (June 6 & 7) ONLY. Thornblade Club will be Thursday – Sunday (June 6-9). Approximate tee times: First wave 6:45am-8:30am Second wave 12:00pm-1:30pm, double tees.
We are excited to provide a carbon neutral experience for all patrons of the “BMW Charity Pro-Am” by investing in the ‘Gold Standard’ of carbon offset credits through Milliken Advisors and Green Trees. Milliken Advisors and Green Trees are investing in South Carolina by establishing world class forests on marginal non-timbered acres, creating new forested acres that will be instrumental in the sustainability challenge ahead.
Each ticket will include a marginal increase of $1.67, that will be invested directly into Green Trees allowing further expansion into the great state of South Carolina.

| Here we go, 2024! On Tuesday morning, the BMW Charity Pro-Am and its partners gathered at the Hotel Hartness to announced the special programming + partnerships surrounding the annual golf tournament, to be held on June 3 – 9, later this year.
We are both humbled and honored to be selected as a Featured Charity for this year’s tournament, which is a major milestone for our organization. This year’s tournament will benefit these local charities:
To help give back to these charities, you are invited to participate in Birdies for Charities during the tournament. This program allows donors to make a one-time flat donation or pledge one cent or more per birdie. |
