The STARTALK Summer Chinese program is now accepting applications from rising 6th through 12th graders. This free, federal grant-funded day camp will be held June 17-28 on the Wofford College campus. Deadline is Feb. 1.

The program will select 45 rising 6th to graduating 12th graders who are energetic, highly motivated and demonstrate academic excellence, in order to ensure the participants’ commitment and success.

Eligibility:

  1. GPA of B+ or above.
  2. Students who are energetic and highly motivated.
  3. Priority will be given to students who can attend all activities in the program and who plan to continue their learning.

  • Official transcript: We require an official report card or an official transcript from your current school. Submit.

Applicants are asked to write a short essay about how their education will enable them to give back to their community and make a difference in the lives of South Carolinians. They will also provide an overview of their volunteer commitments, academic marks, work experience, and financial need. Applications will be reviewed by an internal credit union committee and an external panel of educators and community leaders.

In order to apply, candidates must be a high school or undergraduate student, have an unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher, and be a legal U.S. resident. The first-place winner in the traditional college category will receive a $10,000 scholarship, and the first-place technical school winner will receive a $5,000 scholarship.

There will be something for everyone with historic weapons demonstrations, ranger-led battlefield walks, librarian-led story times, bookmobile, and children’s activities!

About the March Into Reading Program:
(Begins on March 1)
The March Into Reading program includes a booklet and a specially designed patch! The booklet contains a suggested reading list for all ages compiled by librarians, bookmarks, and a certificate. Readers may earn a patch by reading three books from the SCPL. The books must be related to history, nature, wildlife, or outdoor recreation. Visitors may participate by downloading a program booklet online or by obtaining a booklet in-person at Cowpens National Battlefield and SCPL locations. More information to follow!

CLASS DESCRIPTION:
You can expect to learn a variety of “on stage” techniques in our Musical Theatre Workshop.
Together we will explore character development, ensemble interactions, on stage improvisation and more!
This workshop is suitable for beginner through intermediate performers.

DANI KNOX (Teacher):
Dani Knox has experience in teaching various performing arts across the upstate!
Not only has Dani led various Colorguard organizations in the Upstate, but she also teaches various genres of dance with The Movement Company.
Dani holds her associate’s in Early Childhood Development and Administration. After years of being a classroom teacher, she has been inspired to focus her teachings on creative and self expressive subjects.
