Join us for an immersive experience in the art of grafting Japanese Maples, led by expert horticulturist Fritz McCall, owner of Blue Ridge Nursery and longtime Bullington supporter. In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn the intricate techniques of grafting and practice under Fritz’s guidance. You’ll have the opportunity to graft two beautiful maple varieties from the selections (Bloodgood, Inaba Shidare, Sango kaku, Seiryu, Tamukeyama, Viridis, Crimson Queen, and Japonicum) and take your grafted trees home. This class is perfect for both beginners and seasoned gardeners looking to expand their skills. Don’t miss this chance to create your own Japanese Maples and deepen your understanding of this ancient horticultural practice. Participants are asked to bring a sharp knife or Exacto knife.

Ahoy pint-sized Pirates-In-Training! We’re calling all wee mateys and their families to join Fireforge Crafted Beer on Saturday, January 18 from 11:30 am-2 pm for swashbuckling fun and activities! Take a pic with a pirate, plunder for treasure, and gather for special pirate story times at our family-friendly version of Fireforge’s annual “Gasparilla” Pirate Invasion Day celebration! Arrrgh!
P.S. Grown-up Pirates, consider joining us for our Pirate Invasion Party from 6-9 pm featuring All Apologies, the grunge version of fan favorites’ Randomonium!
On exhibit Saturdays and Sundays from 12 – 4 p.m., Rocky Cove Railroad is a G-Scale (garden scale) model train that demonstrates the coming of trains to western North Carolina at the turn of the 20th century. The exhibit is located below the Grand Promenade. Please note, Rocky Cove Railroad will not operate in rainy or wet conditions.

Heavy Mountain Music and Beer Fest returns for Halloween weekend of 2024! Bolstering two days of heavy music and spooky vibes, Heavy Mountain makes its way to the Orange Peel and Burial Beer’s Eulogy. Featuring an array of iconic artists and genre spanning acts, exclusive pours from the area’s finest breweries, and hair-raising visual installations to set the mood for the Southeast’s heaviest Halloween Party!
First wave lineup announcement includes legendary atmospheric black metal from Washington’s Wolves in the Throne Room, dark medieval stylings of black metal heroine Hulder, and immersive fantasy/doom from NYC’s Castle Rat. In addition, the fest will feature highly anticipated album release sets from East Tennessee progressive sludge powerhouse Generation of Vipers and Asheville death metal outfit Harsh Realm.
The fest will also include a pre party with Chicago’s post metal pioneers Pelican & an after party of cover sets by local favorites both hosted at Burial Beer’s Eulogy. Heavy Mountain promises a blood curdling weekend of evil. Sure to please Halloween heads, metal maniacs and beer buffs alike with costumes, cover sets, and plenty of beverages.

The Blue Ridge National Heritage Area (BRNHA) is
excited to announce the Heritage Hearth Charity Drive, a creative effort to collect hand-knit and
crocheted accessories for all ages to benefit residents of Western North Carolina (WNC)
impacted by Hurricane Helene.
As areas recover, BRNHA strives to keep WNC on the radar of those outside the region.
BRNHA will collect donations from November 11, 2024–January 20, 2025, including knit or
crochet hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, and cowls. The North Carolina Voluntary Organizations
Active in Disaster (NCVOAD) will assist in connecting BRNHA to groups that can disperse
donations to those in need across WNC.
