VIRTUAL RAILFAN is live from the Hub City RR Museum in Spartanburg.
The Virtual Railfan cameras were installed on Tuesday, July 6th at the Hub City Railroad Museum. There is one camera looking north and one looking south. The Hub City RR Museum wants to thank the City of Spartanburg for allowing us to install the cameras, and to Virtual Railfan for the install. We have already seen over 300 railfans at one time watching the video feed.

The Carolina Railroad Heritage Association is a <501(c)(3)> not for profit local association of approximately eighty members who enjoy railroads and railroad history. The CRHA is currently meeting the third Friday of each month in Fountain Inn, SC at 7:00 pm. Programs at the meetings include presentations on historical and current railroads and are presented by members as well as outside speakers. Our activities include a photo contest, occasional field trips to local railroad sites, picnics and a December pot luck dinner. CRHA members volunteer at our museum and caboose in Spartanburg, SC. Sally Sierer Bethea will be in conversation with Rebecca Wade of Upstate Forever to discuss Bethea’s book, Keeping the Chattahoochee: Reviving and Defending a Great Southern River. Don’t miss out on this evening discussing over 20 years worth of river conservation stories both entertaining and even alarming.
About the Book:
Sally Sierer Bethea was one of the first women in America to become a “riverkeeper”—a vocal defender of a specific waterway who holds polluters accountable. In Keeping the Chattahoochee, she tells stories that range from joyous and funny to frustrating—even alarming—to illustrate what it takes to save an endangered river. Her tales are triggered by the regular walks she takes through a forest to the Chattahoochee over the course of a year, finding solace and kinship in nature.
For two decades, Bethea worked to restore the neglected Chattahoochee, which provides drinking water and recreation to millions of people, habitat for wildlife, and water for industries and farms as it cuts through the heart of the Deep South. Pairing natural and political history with reflective writing, she draws readers into her watershed and her memories. Bethea’s passion for the natural world—and for defending it with a strong, informed voice animates this instructive memoir. About the Author:
Sally Sierer Bethea is the retired founding director of Chattahoochee Riverkeeper. She served as executive director and riverkeeper for two decades and continues to assist Chattahoochee Riverkeeper as a senior advisor. Bethea also publishes a monthly column, Above the Waterline, in Atlanta Intown. She lives and writes in midtown Atlanta.
About the Conversation Partner:
Rebecca Wade holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Furman University, and a Masters of Natural Science and Environmental Education from Hamline University. Her experience ranges from wildlife research to environmental education and she looks forward to utilizing her knowledge to expand Upstate Forever’s Clean Water initiatives. While Wade has enjoyed learning and teaching about the natural world across the country, she is deeply connected to conservation in the Upstate. In her free time, she enjoys many forms of outdoor recreation including, but not limited to, running, biking, hiking, and backpacking. Additionally, she loves spending time with her husband and dogs at Greenville’s many breweries and restaurants alike.

As part of our Grandfather Presents series, meet Meteorologist Brad Panovich and learn “How the Mountains of North Carolina Affect Our Weather In Every Season of the Year”. Brad is a well-known and respected meteorologist who has been working for WCNC-TV in Charlotte since 2003. He is the chief meteorologist and hosted the weekly segment “Carolina Weather School” during COVID lockdowns. He is also an avid skier and snowboarder who provides weather forecasts for ski resorts across the southeast.
Brad has a passion for weather and science education. He holds a bachelor’s degree in meteorology from The Ohio State University. He is a certified broadcast meteorologist by the American Meteorological Society and a member of the National Weather Association. He has won several awards for his work, including two Emmys and The American Meteorological Society Broadcast Meteorologist of the year in 2017. He is also an adjunct professor at the University of North Carolina Charlotte in their Meteorology department.
Brad Panovich is not only a meteorologist, but also a social media influencer. He has over 425,000 followers on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube, where he posts daily weather updates, videos, live streams and interactive Q&A sessions. He is known for his engaging and informative style, as well as his use of humor and emojis. He is also an advocate for environmental issues, such as climate change and renewable energy.
Brad Panovich is a proud husband and father of two children. He enjoys spending time with his family, skiing, hiking, biking and playing video games. He is also a fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Carolina Panthers and the Charlotte Hornets.

“VIP” tickets include a VIP reception with the guest speaker that includes heavy hors d’oeuvres, in addition to the program and the “meet and greet” session after the event. Admission to the park for the day is also included.

“Regular” tickets are a more cost-effective option and include only the speaker’s program and the “meet and greet” session after the event.

Want to learn about the wonders of rivers? Are you curious about how our waterways connect? And have you ever wanted to fish, but didn’t know how? Come explore Givhans Ferry State Park, guided by a park ranger and Aquarium educators, and discover the endless aqua-tunities of the Edisto! We will fish for information to learn more about the freshwater river that surrounds our home and discuss our findings over pizza!
Meet at South Carolina Aquarium at 9 a.m. for us to take a bus ride to Givhans Ferry State Park Givhans Ferry State Park. Sign in starts at 8:45 a.m., and pick up is at 4:00 p.m.

The annual Triple Tree Fly-In has turned into a “can’t miss” event on everyone’s Fly-In Calendar. Aviators from across the globe anxiously await for the Fall to make the annual pilgrimage to our manicured 7,000-foot grass runway to experience one of the fastest-growing general aviation events in the country.
During our 2022 Fly-In, we had over 800 airplanes visit throughout the week from 43 states nationwide. During that week, the Triple Tree Aerodrome had over 1,700 aircraft movements and a record 804 movements on Saturday. These statistics made the Triple Tree Aerodrome one of the busiest airports in South Carolina (for that week).
NONE of this could happen without your support! Despite all the growth, we still hold true to our core values of Fun, Fellowship, and Hospitality. Please mark your calendars for September 18-24, 2023 for our 16th annual Triple Tree Fly-In. See you soon!

Join New York Times bestselling author Ron Rash for a book your lunch event at City Range on Tuesday, September 26th at Noon. Ron will give a talk on his book, The Caretaker, and will be available afterwards to sign.
Your $60 ticket admits one to the event, and includes lunch, as well as a copy of The Caretaker.
