Sponsored by Mosaic Community Lifestyle Realty, this year’s BRO Revels! is an event not to be missed! Featuring the BRO’s Chamber Strings along with some of Asheville’s most talented musicians and performers, and headlined by internationally renowned traditional music duo Newberry & Verch, the Revels! is a one-of-a-kind holiday celebration. The music is an eclectic mix including traditional carols and folk tunes, Vivaldi’s “Winter” featuring Franklin Keel, Kenny Loggins tunes, fiddle and banjo, and a special performance of “Christmas Eve Sarajevo” featuring Franklin Keel on electric cello!
With Franklin Keel, Rebecca O’Quinn, Megan McConnell, Alex Watson, and Ryan Kijanka, in addition to the BRO Chamber Strings.
About Newberry & Verch:
Joe Newberry grew up in a family full of singers and dancers. He took up the guitar and banjo as a teenager and learned fiddle tunes from great Missouri fiddlers. April Verch grew up listening to her Dad’s country band play for dances in the Ottawa Valley. She started step dancing at age three and fiddling at age six. Both Newberry & Verch became masters of their traditions and tour the world with their respective bands and projects. Yet they never forget the roots of their music, that connection to the people in the audience, on the dance floor, to the community sparked by a good song.
For these veteran performers who come from distinct traditions and parts of the world, their collaboration is fueled by their kindred passion for bringing people together to celebrate traditional music. Blues and ballads stem into Canadian regional styles and originals. Their voices blend in harmony, their tasteful instrumentals prove that these masters have nothing left to prove, and then their feet kick up the dust in perfect rhythm…and together, they make you remember why this music existed in the first place.
The program will be performed twice on December 9, 2018, in the intimate Folk Art Center. Tickets are limited! General admission is $25 for this special event. Friends will limited to ONE FriendPass ticket per household/group, but will be able to purchase additional tickets for only $15 each. Student tickets are also $15. Because only one FriendPass ticket can be used per household, it is not possible to deliver your tickets to your FriendPass for this concert.
This program is supported by the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
Inclement Weather Plan:
Weather-related information about the concerts will be recorded on the BRO Weather Information phone line (828.351.4014) by 11am on Sunday, December 9. Please call to verify the time, location, and status of the concerts before traveling.
If the Folk Art Center closes but area roads are relatively clear, we will relocate to Biltmore United Methodist Church (376 Hendersonville Rd in Asheville) for a single performance at 3:30pm. All tickets will be honored at this performance.
If the weather necessitates cancelling the concerts completely, we will refund all tickets.
If the concerts are not cancelled but you feel you cannot travel due to weather, please email us at [email protected] to request a refund or future ticket credit.

T.J. MILLER is one of the most sought after comedians in the comedy world, but not in the drama world,or the finance world. He was named one of Variety’s “Top 10 Comics to Watch,” and EW’s “Next Big Things in Comedy”. Miller’s voice stars in Disney’s Academy Award-winning animated feature, BIG HERO 6. You may recognize his non-animated face and body from his roles in FOX’s big screen comic book adaptation of DEADPOOL, the highest grossing R-rated film of all time, 2014’s surprise indie hit TRANSFORMERS 4, and Mike Judge’s HBO comedy series SILICON VALLEY, now in its third season, for which he received the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Television Comedy. His podcast “Cashing in with T.J. Miller” is listened to by 12 and ½ people, and he is a nationally touring standup artist, crisscrossing the country listening to Kris Kross (he’s also done shows in the U.K. and Puerto Rico (Puerto Rico did not go well)). He has been performing his absurdist observational standup act for over 10 years, and has never gone to the bathroom in his pants on stage. His hour-long Comedy Central stand-up special T.J. MILLER: NO REAL REASON and hip-hop/pop/folk music album “The Extended Play E.P.”, an E.P. with 41 tracks, and the ILLEGAL ART REMIXTAPE are all available now. He hosted Comedy Central’s MASH-UP, a mashup of standup, sketches and visualizations, and has appeared on CHELSEA LATELY more than most women his height. He got his start touring with Second City in Chicago and improvising with Annoyance Theater, iO, and managers at electronics stores asking why he was late and smelled like gin. Miller has been in a number of major studio films including CLOVERFIELD, SHE’S OUT OF MY LEAGUE, SEEKING A FRIEND FOR THE END OF THE WORLD, ROCK OF AGES, OUR IDIOT BROTHER, YOGI BEAR 3D (Ranger Jones, his greatest role to date), UNSTOPPABLE, and GET HIM TO THE GREEK. Miller also talks like an old drag queen after a hard night of chain smoking, and thus voiced the character Tuffnut in the Oscar-nominated animated film HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON and HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2. He voices Robbie from GRAVITY FALLS on Disney, Tuffnut in the Netflix HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON TV series, and GORBURGER, a very strange show you just have to google to understand. Upcoming films include OFFICE CHRISTMAS PARTY, opposite Jason Bateman and Jennifer Aniston and READY PLAYER ONE directed by Steven Spielberg. He resides in Hollywood, California, where he struggles to find meaning in an uncertain world. He is a comedian.

Known for its monumental scale of traditional holiday décor and dazzling lights, this year Biltmore’s annual Christmas at Biltmore celebration will offer even more than ever before.
A yuletide feast for the senses, Christmas at Biltmore begins Nov. 1, 2019. One week later, on Nov. 8, the estate will welcome Downton Abbey: The Exhibition, an immersive experience that celebrates the global hit television series and new feature film.
Biltmore House aglow with five dozen Christmas trees
Biltmore House interiors will shine with the sparkle of more than 50 hand-decorated Christmas trees, ribbons and garlands measured by the mile, and thousands of lights. A majestic 35-foot Fraser fir in the Banquet Hall is the home’s holiday centerpiece. For the first time, hand-decorated Christmas trees will be displayed on the balcony that wraps around the home’s two-story Library.
Candlelight Christmas Evenings
During Candlelight Christmas Evenings, candlelight, firelight, and live music will create a magical environment that elevates seasonal celebrations inside Biltmore House. A 55-foot Norway Spruce on the home’s front lawn lit with 55,000 lights will greet guests as they arrive to enter Biltmore House.
The warm welcome continues at Antler Hill Village & Winery with a constellation of holiday lights leading to the Winery and estate restaurants. A towering tree of lights will illuminate the Village Green, with a sea of lighted grapevine spheres nestled in the landscaping. Lights cascading from the trees that surround the bonfire area near Antler Hill Barn will offer a unique touch to the experience.
Downton Abbey: The Exhibition
Downton Abbey: The Exhibition will feature interactive elements that connect fans to their favorite characters, fashions, locations, and historic events of the era. Showcased in two estate locations, the exhibition pairs seamlessly with the real-life story of the Vanderbilt family at Biltmore. Amherst at Deerpark will host multimedia presentations and some of the series’ most recognizable sets—including Mrs. Patmore’s hectic kitchen and the gossip-fueled servants’ quarters. At The Biltmore Legacy in Antler Hill Village, a gallery of more than 50 costumes from the series will be on view.
The exhibition will run through April 7, 2020. Access to Downton Abbey: The Exhibition is included with daytime admission, Candlelight Christmas Evenings admission, or an overnight stay that includes daytime admission.
