South Carolina Women in Leadership (SC WIL) is a multi-partisan group of women whose mission is to move South Carolina forward – socially, economically, educationally, and environmentally – through information, connection, and engagement of women in leadership.
Our 2019-2022 Goals include:
-
Ensure fair voting – provide information about equitable redistricting and voting process/equipment improvement.
-
Fill the pipeline – connect women to opportunities, resources, information about running for office and referral to others who may choose to help them win.
-
Reduce polarization – encourage listening, respectful conversation, and consensus-building. We are women, and women get things done. Join us in our effort to drive change in South Carolina! Visit SCWomenLead.

Restoring and protecting wetland forests in the US South will provide extensive financial, social, and environmental benefits. We hope that you’ll visit the Wetland Forest Priority Maps and explore the information and stories found within.
We’ve highlighted fourteen potential watersheds to prioritize for conservation work in wetland forests, including:
- The Lower Pee Dee Watershed in coastal South Carolina and North Carolina
- The Apalachicola Watershed in the panhandle of Florida and inland Georgia
- The Atchafalaya Watershed in Louisiana
- The Mobile-Bay Tombigbee Watershed in Alabama
These are the watersheds that we may look to when developing relationships with landowners, working with community members on flood resilience, or improving wildlife habitat in the region.
The Wetland Forest Priority Maps identify high priority watersheds based on wildlife, human communities, and threats. Wa

Filling the Gap
Last week South Carolina Women in Leadership (SC WIL) joined Governor Henry McMaster and Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette in calling on more women to consider serving on state boards and commissions.
Hundreds of open seats, as well as those with expiring terms, are appointed by our Governor. Additionally, legislative delegations select nominees for others boards. These are important positions that qualified women could – and should – fill.
When we overlook capable women, we shortchange our state. Board decision-making requires the ability to hear and consider different points of view, which come from people who have different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.
Women make up 51.5 percent of the population in South Carolina but are vastly underrepresented in state government. Our co-chairs present diverse backgrounds as they support our work in recruiting diverse and qualified candidates for boards and commissions.
