According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), the benefits of quitting start almost immediately, no matter how long you have used tobacco.

20 minutes after quitting – Heart rate and blood pressure begin to decrease
12 hours after quitting – Carbon monoxide levels in the blood return to normal
1 to 9 months after quitting – Coughing and shortness of breath should decrease
1 year after quitting – Risk of coronary heart disease is half of that of a continuing tobacco user
5 years after quitting – Risk of cancer of the mouth, throat, esophagus and bladder are cut in half
10 years after quitting – Risk of dying from lung cancer is about half that of a person who is still using
tobacco
15 years after quitting – Risk for coronary heart disease is that of a non-tobacco user

QuitWell, this no-pressure program consists of 5 weekly sessions. You will learn about quit techniques, nicotine replacement therapy, quit kits, how to set a quit date—all while building a support system.
