Carolina Shine Moonshine Experience with the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad
Aug 26 @ 10:30 am – 3:00 pm
Great Smoky Mountains Railroad

“Shine and Dine” on the railway! We cordially invite you to hop on board The Carolina Shine, GSMR’s All-Adult First Class Moonshine Car! We will be proudly serving hand crafted, triple-distilled, craft moonshine. Some of the smoothest tasting moonshine in the Carolinas!

Offered on the Nantahala Gorge excursion, this shine and dine experience begins in a renovated First Class train fleet car, The Carolina Shine. The interior features copper lined walls filled with the history of moonshining in North Carolina. Learn about the proud tradition that the Appalachians established when bootlegging was an acceptable way of life and local home brews were the best in town. Read about Swain County’s very own Major Redmond, the most famous mountain moonshine outlaw of the 19th century.

Once your appetite for knowledge is satisfied, enjoy sample tastings of flavors like Apple Pie, Blackberry, Blueberry, Cherry, Peach, and Strawberry moonshine. If the samples are not enough, there will be plenty of Moonshine infused cocktails like Copper Cola or Moonshiner’s Mimosa available for purchase.

GSMR is excited to feature multiple craft NC based distilleries to serve our guests only the best! Each jar is handcrafted and authentically infused with real fruit, the way moonshine was meant to be made.

Passengers will also enjoy a full service All-Adult First Class ride with an attendant serving GSMR’s freshly cooked pulled pork barbeque rubbed with Cajun spices then slow-roasted to perfection served with southern sweet cornbread muffin with honey butter, coleslaw, and cinnamon apples then finish with a delicious piece of Sea Salt Caramel Cheesecake. Riders will also receive their very own Carolina Shine mason drinking jar, refillable with soda beverages and tea throughout the day, and a souvenir GSMR tote bag (1 per couple/party).

Virtual Dinner Party
Aug 27 @ 7:00 pm
M. Judson Booksellers - Virtual Zoom Event

Some of us are Greenville natives, so we’re especially excited about John’s new book, Lost Restaurants of Greenville. We remember Vince Perone’s and Gene’s and Charlie’s, local restaurants that were iconic in their day. John covers these and many more in a stroll down a culinary memory lane. This virtual conversation will be moderated by a current Greenville restaurant legend, Chef Rodney from Table 301 (and Restaurant O). If we stopped right there, it’s just a conversation, not a dinner party.

We’re not stopping there.

Chef Rodney has cooked up a special menu for us that reflects the Restaurant O’s offerings. Your ticket includes the book and dinner for two and the dinner party invitation. We are all going to dine together (at our own screens and homes), enjoying the same food and listening to the same scintillating dinner conversation. It’ll just be virtual.

You have two ticket options.

Dinner for Two and a copy of John’s new book, Lost Restaurants of Greenville ~ $77
Dinner for Two, a copy of John’s new book, Lost Restaurants of Greenville, and a bottle of wine ~ $95
Registration is required by 6pm on August 26th.

If you’re curious about how this is going to work, this is what we’re thinking:

Stop by Table 301 Kitchen (22 E. Court St.) sometime between 2:30 and 6 pm on August 27 to pick up your portable dinner party pack. This includes a fully prepared dinner for two and a copy of Lost Restaurants of Greenville.
Set your table, warm your plate, and log in with us at 7. That’s all there is to it!
Here is the menu:

Remembering Restaurant O:
Starter:
Creamy Blue Crab and Vidalia Onion Soup

Entrée:
Grilled Braveheart Beef Shoulder Tender

Watermelon Salad- Watermelon, Feta Cheese, Greens, Heirloom Cherry Tomatoes, Pickled Red Onions, Cucumbers, Toasted Pistachios, Pistachio Oil, Balsamic Reduction.

Dessert:
Dark Chocolate Bombe with White Chocolate and Coconut Ganache, Chocolate Marquise Cake, Dark Chocolate Glaze
