For over 65 years, a select group of college-age performers participate in an intensive summer at Flat Rock Playhouse that includes on-stage performance and mentoring from FRP professionals. They also perform Rootabaga stories four times a week at the Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site and take original educational programs out to schools in four area counties. Apprentices come from prestigious theatre schools across the country and are chosen from more than 1000 students who audition.
Apprentice graduates have gone on to major professional engagements on and off-Broadway, on national tours, and in regional theatres. Notable alumni who have played on Broadway include Michael Luwoye (Hamilton in Hamilton, An American Musical), Adam Kaplan (A Bronx Tale), Ginna Claire Mason (Glinda in Wicked), Jared Goldsmith (Dear Evan Hansen) and Ben Hope (Once).

Join us as we come together to celebrate Juneteenth by hosting our 2nd annual Juneteenth GVL gala. The Royal Gala, this year’s theme, kicks off Greenville, SC’s Juneteenth weekend with a night of elegance, dining and dancing, and celebration in a festive Afrocentric atmosphere.
Ticket price includes reserved seating and a plated dinner along with a cash bar. The evening begins with a regal reception from 6pm to 7 pm. A seated dinner beginning at 7pm and an engaging program beginning at 7:50pm. We are excited to feature the evening’s entertainment with the funkiest, savviest dealers of Funk, R&B and Hip-Hop entertainment. Better known as Fly Fidelity, this band is being brought back by popular demand.
This is a formal BLACK TIE affair and all are welcomed to make a bold statement with Afrocentric attire and accessories.
Gala is for ages 18 and up.

Join Kristin Shook for Yoga in the Garden each Saturday beginning April 1st through June 17th. The natural setting of Hatcher Garden is the perfect place for this practice. A suggested donation of $15 can be paid online during registration each week or you may bring it to class. All donations directly benefit Hatcher Garden.

Join Hub City Bookshop for a writing workshop with author Mickey Dubrow! Perfect for budding writers and those with experience. Open to all ages.
Please bring your own writing materials.
About the Workshop
Time travel doesn’t exist…yet. Until it does, it’s up to writers to explore how and why people travel through time. In this 90 minute hands-on workshop, participants will explore the elements of writing compelling time travel fiction for young adults.
Participants will:
-Learn the basic rules of time travel (there really are some)
-Generate new material
-Craft engaging scenes
-Engage in teamwork exercises
No prior writing experience required.
About the Author
Mickey Dubrow is the author of Always Agnes and American Judas. For over thirty years, he wrote television promos, marketing presentations, and scripts for various clients including Cartoon Network, TNT Latin America, and HGTV. His short stories and essays have appeared in Prime Number Magazine, The Good Men Project, The Signal Mountain Review, Full Grown People, and McSweeney’s Internet Tendency. His first novel, American Judas, was a Finalist for the 2020 Georgia Author of the Year Award in the category of First Novel. He lives in Atlanta with his wife, author Jessica Handler.
