Do you have what it takes to complete the Paris Mountain X – Road Cycling Challenge? How many ascents can you do up Paris Mountain’s steep side (Furman)? Can you do the “X” (10 ascents)? Can you break a personal best number of Paris Mountain ascents? Come out and enjoy this free cycling event with a tailgating atmosphere. Enjoy suffering along with your fellow cyclists as we all take on the PMX challenge. The goal is to have a good time, eat some food, get in some training and simply enjoy yourself with other cyclists planning for the Gran Fondo Hincapie-Greenville.

We’ll have some refreshments at the base of Paris Mountain however it’s encouraged that you bring some goodies to add/share with others. Doughnuts, fruits, cookies, bring anything that you know others will enjoy. Remember this isn’t a race (unless you make it one) and we’d like to keep the atmosphere as loose and festive as possible. Cheer on riders as they ascent and descend for the day.

This ride is your final training ride for the upcoming Gran Fondo Hincapie-Greenville on October 20th and an official Hincapie Cycling Society member event. Everyone is welcome. Ride at your own risk.

We’ll have one of a kind custom PMX t-shirts for sale to commemorate your achievement but supplies will be extremely limited, pre-order your shirts if you want to guarantee yourself one (details coming soon).

To join the ride, all you have to do is sign-in on the whiteboard before 8:00am so everyone can track rider progress and get to pedaling.

Start time is at 8am sharp at the base of Altamont, Rd.
Parking is limited at the base of Altamont, Rd – Alternative Parking can be made at the Wal-Mart Shopping Center (Benton Road) or Poinsett Park.

Astro Kennels’ Decoy Seminar taught by Astro trainer and NAPWDA master trainer, Doug Wannemacher, will teach attendees canine psychology, decoy techniques, proper decoying for bite building, instruction on proper equipment and use, as well as decoying for seasoned canines. No previous decoying experience is required to attend this seminar. Attendees that are participating and not auditing must be at least 18-years-old (no minimum age to audit). We will allow participants to bring their own dog(s) to the seminar as long as they have already been trained in bite work, however, this is not a guarantee that your dog will be utilized during the seminar. Please note, those that plan on bringing their dog(s) will need to bring a crate along with vaccination records that show current Rabies, DHPP, and Bordatella vaccines. The daily hours of this seminar are 9:00am – 5:00pm. On October 13th, attendees will meet at Astro Kennels 2 located at 146 Old Mill Road, Greenville, SC 29607. The Fall Book Sale will feature thousands of gently used fiction and nonfiction titles in hardcover and paperback as well as DVDs and CDs. Many items at the sale will be priced at $1 or less.

The Fall Book Sale dates and hours are:
PREVIEW DAY FOR FRIENDS ONLY – Wednesday, Oct. 10, 3-7pm
Thursday, Oct. 11, 9am-7pm
Friday, Oct. 12, 9am-5pm (select books will be free starting at 3pm this day)
Saturday, Oct. 13, 9am-3pm (the $5 bag sale is from 9am-12pm this day)

The first day of the sale – Wednesday, Oct. 10 – is a Special Preview Day for Friends only from 3-7pm, exclusively for current Friends and for those who join the Friends that day. Come take advantage of the Preview Day and bring a friend to join the Friends! Annual memberships with the nonprofit Friends group are $10 for individuals and $15 for families living in the same household. Individual lifetime memberships are $100. Membership forms will be at the Book Sale and also can be downloaded at polklibrary.org/support/friends. The Friends’ Book Sales are the primary fundraisers for the nonprofit Friends group with all proceeds going to support library projects and initiatives such as the summer reading programs, special events, professional development opportunities for library staff, appreciation events for library volunteers and free programs for adults and children.
