The Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville is the largest event venue located in downtown Asheville, nestled in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. With a history dating back over one hundred years, these facilities have played host to a variety of events, including concerts, meetings, trade shows, professional conferences and conventions, cheer competitions, and artistic performances. From Celtic Woman to Jerry Seinfeld, from leadership summits to the Southern Conference Basketball Tournament, the Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville is sure to have the perfect space for your event. The Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville is a great venue to host a Cheer and Dance Competition in North Carolina.
NC State Parks’ Year of the Trail continues with a celebration of how our trails transform each spring. Bring your camera on your next excursion in the park and capture budding wildflowers, spring hikers, or whatever you encounter along the way. You may even win a prize for your efforts!

1st Prize: The winning photo will be our Facebook cover photo for two weeks, and the photographer will receive two annual passes to Chimney Rock State Park and lunch for four at the Old Rock Café.

The Curator’s Journal by Bonsai Curator Arthur Joura is a year-long course offering the ultimate insider’s view of bonsai at The North Carolina Arboretum. Regular entries chronicle growing an art and growing an enterprise. Some journal entries will be long and others more brief; some will be mostly words and others mostly pictures; some will be close-up studies of detail and others will step back to take in the wider scene. The path will not be linear, but all the entries will be steps along a journey.
You’re invited to come along.
VIRTUAL RAILFAN is live from the Hub City RR Museum in Spartanburg.
The Virtual Railfan cameras were installed on Tuesday, July 6th at the Hub City Railroad Museum. There is one camera looking north and one looking south. The Hub City RR Museum wants to thank the City of Spartanburg for allowing us to install the cameras, and to Virtual Railfan for the install. We have already seen over 300 railfans at one time watching the video feed.

Carolina Railroad Heritage Association
The Carolina Railroad Heritage Association is a <501(c)(3)> not for profit local association of approximately eighty members who enjoy railroads and railroad history. The CRHA is currently meeting the third Friday of each month in Fountain Inn, SC at 7:00 pm. Programs at the meetings include presentations on historical and current railroads and are presented by members as well as outside speakers. Our activities include a photo contest, occasional field trips to local railroad sites, picnics and a December pot luck dinner. CRHA members volunteer at our museum and caboose in Spartanburg, SC. The Cooper River Bridge Run serves as a model of health motivation for other communities throughout the world.
The Greenville State Farmers Market includes retail sheds and farmer stalls that offer a wide variety of locally grown products and specialty goods. Both quality and variety are standards for the volume of products offered for sale at the Greenville State Farmers Market. Market operations continue Monday – Saturday all year long, ceasing for only two holidays: Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Embark on a scenic journey across George Vanderbilt’s Italy with a large-scale outdoor display that combines brilliant botanical designs with authentic messages written by Vanderbilt himself.
Beautifully handcrafted of natural elements, each sculptural postcard depicts a location or landmark Vanderbilt visited more than a century ago. This captivating complement to Biltmore’s Italian Renaissance Alive exhibition reveals Vanderbilt’s passions for travel, culture, architecture, and art as well as his personal experience of such renowned Italian cities as Milan, Florence, Venice, Pisa, and Vatican City.
Adding to the charm and visual appeal of Ciao! From Italy—sure to be a hit among kids of all ages—is the G-scale model train that travels in and out of each postcard in this enlightening display!
World-class orchid growers and breeders along with regional orchid societies will exhibit at this annual show by the Western North Carolina Orchid Society, with hundreds of orchids presented in carefully crafted displays.
Orchids will be for sale by vendors from Ecuador and across the United States. Attendees should expect rare species, cutting-edge hybrids and something for all orchid lovers. All festival exhibits, programs and educational lectures each day are included. Admission to the festival is $5 per person in addition to the Arboretum’s parking fee. Children 12 and under, free.
Join a Park naturalist on a moderate hike and see Hickory Nut Gorge come alive as spring wildflowers emerge along the trails. The journey will take you along the Hickory Nut Falls Trail and down the Four Seasons Trail as you learn to identify some of our gorgeous spring blooms. Transportation will be provided back to the top lot.

A group of 18 Upstate artists will not only shine the light, but will create with light, in their upcoming joint exhibition, “Glow Show: Creating with Light,” March 7 through April 1 in the Downstairs Gallery of the Artists Collective | Spartanburg. An artists’ reception will be held Thursday, March 16, as part of ArtWalk Spartanburg.
“The room will be lit up with blacklights, and the artists will have paintings that glow on the walls,” says participating artist Sally Y. Weber. “Two tables will have 3D items painted with glow paints, one will be glowing fairy garden and the other our palettes, brushes, and scraps that glow. This will be educational since we all are learning to use this different medium in our art. There will be curtains on the doors and windows. Small UV flashlights will be provided for viewers to use for an interactive experience.” |

Hit the trails and learn more about The North Carolina Arboretum’s botanically diverse forest with a guided trail walk! April through October, this free hiking program is led by trained volunteer guides who take small groups of participants along woodland trails and through a variety of forest types. Depending on the season and each guide’s area of expertise, topics of discussion may include wildflowers, plant and tree identification, natural history and more.
Guided trail walks are limited to 15 people, including the guide, and are not recommended for guests under 16 years of age. Groups depart from the Baker Visitor Center Lobby on Tuesdays at 1 p.m. and Saturdays at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m..
Walks last 1.5 – 2.5 hours, are approximately one to two miles in length. As this program is held rain or shine, all participants should dress appropriately for the weather.
There is no pre-registration; walks are first-come first served and sign up sheets are located in the Baker Visitors Center.
Walks are FREE; however, donations to The North Carolina Arboretum Society are appreciated. Regular parking fees apply. Arboretum Society Members always park free.
Know Before You Go
- Guided Trail Walks are not recommended for guests under 16 years of age.
- Guided Trail Walks are rain or shine and all participants should be dressed comfortably and for the weather.
- Hikes cover 1-2 miles and last 1.5-2 hours.
- Well-behaved leashed pets are welcome to accompany their owners. In the rare case that a pet is disruptive or negatively impacts the experience, the pet and its owner may be asked to excuse themselves from the guided walk.
- COVID-19 Safety: In order to hear the guide and fully participate in the trail walk, participants will be in close proximity to one another for extended periods of time. While face coverings are not required, participants should use their best judgement to keep themselves and others safe while enjoying the trails. Individuals who are experiencing flu-like symptoms or suspect they may have been exposed to COVID-19 should not participate.
- At this time, no more than 6 spaces may be filled by a single family/group through pre-registration for any one Guided Trail Walk. If additional spaces are available on the day of the Walk, additional members of the family/group may participate. We apologize for any inconvenience and look forward to welcoming larger groups in the future.
