Ever question if there’s more to life? Alpha is a series of group conversations that explore the basics of the Christian faith in a friendly environment. It’s a place to connect with people, where you can say anything you like or nothing at all. Everyone’s welcome. You’re invited, no matter your background or beliefs.
Each session includes a time to connect with others (often over a free meal), hear a short talk on an element of the Christian faith, and then a chance for each person to share their own questions with the group. We’d love to hear your perspective!
We’re revisiting the topic of the astrological houses- mapping your year to your houses. Every month, we shift into a new season. Right now we’re in Pisces season, and soon we’ll transition into Aries (the beginning of the astrological year) so it’s a great time to start mapping for the “new year.”
With each astrological phase, we enter a new house, specific to our chart. Depending on which house you’re in, you can direct your energy to a certain area of your life and work with the flow of your chart, supported by your chart and “the stars” instead of against it.
This is a super fun interactive topic and I look forward to diving in w/ all of you.
Location: The Commons– in the back by Community Tap by the freezers/ wine merchandise OR if it’s nice, outside at the picnic tables, by the trail. Text me if you’re lost – 646-864-4910. I’ll try to grab a bunch of flowers or something so you can find our table.
There’s food and drink options, so feel free to come a little early and grab dinner or eat during our session. beer wine kombucha/ tacos sandwiches etc…
Children are welcome. I have a 6 year old and he’ll join. Let me know if you’re bringing any kids and I’ll have a few games for them.

Many have heard of “love languages”; the ways we share and receive love from those most important in our life. One of those love languages? Acts of service. What better act of service than donating blood with The Blood Connection (TBC) and their partner organizations? Donating blood is a compassionate way to show our neighbors and community just how much we care. This February, TBC is partnering with Texas Roadhouse to provide fun and rewarding opportunities to donate blood.
On February 23 and March 2, TBC is once again partnering with Texas Roadhouse for the “Hearts as Big as Texas” campaign. Now in its fifth year, Hearts as Big as Texas brings more than 20 bloodmobiles out across the Carolinas and Georgia to make blood donation convenient and fun for community members. As a thank you for donating, all blood donors will receive a $20 Texas Roadhouse Gift card, a free appetizer coupon, plus a bonus $30 eGift card! Participating locations include:

The Art Center is open for extended hours, 6pm to 9pm, on the first Friday of every month for First Friday activities. In addition to viewing multiple exhibitions from both locally and nationally-recognized artists, at GCCA you’ll have the opportunity to meet the resident working artists, see their studio spaces and works in progress, and learn more about their personal style and artistic process.

The South Carolina Wildlife Federation is partnering with the Harbison Community Association, Palmetto Pride, and the South Carolina Aquarium for a litter sweep at Archer’s Lake in Irmo, SC. on Saturday, March 4th. Archer’s Lake can be a great place for wintering waterfowl, but unfortunately it can also be filled with a significant amount of litter.
Please join us to clean the shorelines of this urban pond to create a cleaner and safer habitat not just for the waterfowl, but for wading birds, and songbirds too. We’ll attack the problem by boat and by land to rid the location of dangerous trash, and use the South Carolina Aquarium’s app to record the data. These efforts will improve human health, promote habitat conservation, and save wildlife.
Last year we picked up almost 4,000 pieces of litter at this same location!
Litter is a pervasive problem with the potential to negatively affect all living things. From South Carolina’s mountain streams to its island beaches, plastics and other improperly discarded materials not only destroy the beauty of our landscape but also can be harmful to us. Rainwater pooled in plastic litter provides a breeding ground for disease-spreading mosquitoes. Plastics and cigarette butts may leach dangerous toxins into our water supply. Aggregations of litter can clog storm drains, harm wildlife, and harbor disease-causing microbes.
Tracking and removing plastics and other types of litter from both terrestrial and marine habitats throughout our state will provide invaluable data to help South Carolina fix our pollution problem. It will also open the eyes of our residents to how much pollution there is, and hopefully motivate them to lead their own clean-ups throughout the state.
Please wear clothes appropriate for the weather. Gloves, trash grabbers, and bags will be provided by the Harbison Community Association. Please sign up on the link below so we have the appropriate amount of equipment for the group. Snacks and water will be provided, and you will recieve an email with parking informaiton before the event.
Thank you for joining with us to make Archer’s Lake a safer home for wildlife!
