The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club needs your help to make this summer the best one yet for kids in our community. For nine weeks while children are out of school on summer break, the Boys & Girls Club hosts its Summer Camp at the Kroc Center in Greenville.
The children spend their days doing fun-filled activities, taking field trips, participating in character building classes and much more. We need help funding the scholarship program to help offset the cost for families unable to afford this quality out-of-school time experience for their children.

It’s your lucky day! With a prime location at the start of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Main Street in downtown Greenville, The Bellwether Public House is opening an hour early to ensure the best seats in the house from the wee morning ‘til late in the evening. If so, this may be your calling. Our VITA Greeters welcome the neighbors upon their arrival. During check-in, you will make sure they have the needed and completed documents for our tax preparers. You do NOT need to have any knowledge of taxes to participate in this activity.
We offer this assistance from the end of January to mid April. The weekly shifts are Tuesday and Thursday from 5pm to 8pm and Saturday from 8:30am to 1:30pm. The Spartanburg Science Center has partnered with the Spartanburg Downtown Airport to expose our community to the value and appreciation of aviation. It is one of the first partnerships known that matches a community science center with the study and hands-on experience of many aspects of aviation. Hang on for the ride!
This diverse program curriculum demonstrates all the possibilities in working in the aviation field. It allows young people to see what the aviation field has to offer in more ways than just being a pilot.
Attend an educational class with the Civil Air Patrol, the official civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force. This will provide an inside look at how the Civil Air Patrol progresses into the United States Air Force as a career.
Learn how technology is creating a cost effective way to train pilots by experiencing a flight simulator as it re-creates aircraft flight and the environment in which it flies.
Learn how physics and weather patterns provide flight through experiencing an Instructional glider flight around the local area. A glider is a heavier-than-air aircraft.
This class will show how the FAA is cornerstone in aviation safety and creating aviation policy. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is a governmental body of the United States with powers to regulate all aspects of civil aviation.
Learn about the types of ground equipment and support services that are required to refuel and service an aircraft.
Work alongside a licensed aircraft mechanic in carrying out maintenance, preventive maintenance, and alteration of aircraft and aircraft systems.
Fly a powered flight to a local airport for lunch. See what is takes to become a pilot in command of an aircraft that is directly responsible for, and is the final authority as to, the operation of that aircraft.
Do you know a student who is interested in Aviation?
Six individuals between 16-20 years old will have the opportunity to learn from the full resources available at the Spartanburg Memorial Downtown Airport this summer. Piloted in partnership with the airport’s aviation groups and the Spartanburg Science Center, students will be taken through a seven week program. At the conclusion of the course the group will present their experiences in a digital format to members of each of the contributing organizations.
One of America’s premier music festivals, Brevard Music Center’s 2024 summer lineup features a diverse offering of symphony, opera, chamber, jazz, bluegrass, and Broadway performances. The season will be highlighted by Legendary Artist Wynton Marsalis, who will appear with The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra in three extraordinary concerts in late June. You and/or your company can host a meal for our wonderful VITA Volunteers. The meal can be homemade or catered through a restaurant. The VITA Program runs from the end of January to mid April. On Tuesday and Thursday evenings most are coming to Greer Relief straight from work, and on Saturday they spend the day here and lunch would be greatly appreciated. Our team can help you obtain all eligible tax credits and deductions, especially the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, Education Tax Credits and Child Care tax deductions.
There are now three easy ways to file for free through VITA:
IRS-trained and -certified volunteers serve at over 40 locations across the Upstate to help participants receive all eligible tax credits and deductions. Clients arrive to their appointment, complete intake forms and provide necessary documentation to the volunteer tax preparer. Once the return is complete, another certified volunteer will review the return for accuracy then the entire return will be reviewed with the client.

Artisphere has approached us to participate in their Arts Partner Program, offering a chance to secure funding for GCCA through volunteer efforts. By collectively completing 250 volunteer hours, we can unlock vital resources that will be reinvested back into our community in various meaningful ways.
While our dedicated staff is committed to contributing their time, we recognize that our team alone will not reach the goal. That’s why we’re calling on our wonderful community to join us in this endeavor. With your help, we can achieve our target of 250 volunteer hours.
We’re asking for volunteers to sign up for 2 to 4 shifts each, with most shifts spanning 3 to 4 hours (some may be slightly longer). Your participation will not only support GCCA but also contribute to the vibrant cultural landscape of our city.
To sign up for shifts, please follow the instructions provided in the link below. When registering, be sure to indicate that you’re volunteering on behalf of GCCA to ensure your hours count towards our total. After signing up, we ask that you kindly inform our Operations Manager, Alicia Mizuno, of the number of shifts and total hours you’ve committed to.
