Tangos and Tapas

The Studio One Series offers an evening of Latin flair with a well-known dance of love – the tango. The tango, originating from Argentina, embodies many cultural roots. It is a dance of connection communicating passion, desire and of course, love. Tangos from well-known ballets and original choreographed pieces will be part of the evening enhanced by tapas and vino before the performance. Performances will take place in our beautiful studios. Directed by Lona Gomez. Not to be missed.

*Please note. This event takes place in our studios and not in the Chapman Cultural Center’s theater. All ticket sales are handled through Ballet Spartanburg. The meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn stumbles across a new breed of plant he names “Audrey II” – after his coworker crush. This foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore promises unending fame and fortune to the down and out Krelborn as long as he keeps feeding it, BLOOD. Over time, though, Seymour discovers Audrey II’s out of this world origins and intent towards global domination!

Rocky Cove Railroad Exhibit

On exhibit Saturdays and Sundays from 12 – 4 p.m., Rocky Cove Railroad is a G-Scale (garden scale) model train that demonstrates the coming of trains to western North Carolina at the turn of the 20th century. The exhibit is located below the Grand Promenade. Please note, Rocky Cove Railroad will not operate in rainy or wet conditions.

Embark on a thrilling musical odyssey as Music Director Emeritus Edvard Tchivzhel kicks off the evening with Rossini’s iconic Overture to William Tell, setting the stage for an exhilarating journey through the Spanish countryside with Rimsky-Korsakov’s vibrant Capriccio espagnol. We conclude the evening with the fourth symphony of Tchivzhel’s favorite composer: the great Russian romantic, Tchaikovsky.

A young orphan and his friends are shipped off from Victorian England to a distant island ruled by an evil king. At sea, the boys are discovered by a precocious young girl named Molly, a Starcatcher-in-training who realizes that there is precious cargo on board that is so powerful it must never fall into the wrong hands! When the ship is taken over by pirates – led by the fearsome Black Stache (later to become Captain Hook), a villain determined to claim the trunk and its treasure for his own – the journey quickly becomes a thrilling adventure! Join us as we open the treasure trove of spectacle, wit and fun that is Peter and the Starcatcher.
