“Grateful Brew is collaborating with YouthBASE, an academic Intervention nonprofit, to present the third annual A Very Grateful Christmas Event on December 9th. Join us at Grateful Brew, located at 501 S Pleasantburg Dr., from 10 am to 4 pm for a family-friendly, dog-friendly event. Capture festive moments with Santa, enjoy a crafting table, indulge in holiday drinks, and savor treats from a food truck. Don’t miss the chance to participate in a raffle, with all proceeds dedicated to supporting YouthBASE.

As a gift of giving, we will be making a cat toy to donate to the Greenville and Spartanburg Humane Societies. Toys made are cat friendly.

Geeks Who Drink and Dave & Buster’s have teamed up to bring you the Dave & Buster’s Trivai Show. It’s a whole new format that combinest he super-social Geeks Who Drink trivia night with all the frenetic game-show action you’d expect from Dave & Buster’s. Get ready for pop culture-centric trivia where winners receive Power Cards. In between rounds, join in on the physical challenge fun for bonus prizes – or just gawk at the people who do. All in all, it’s two hours and it’s free to play. No reservations needed, just show up! Teams can be up to six players, so bring your smartest friends (or some likable dummies)—or come solo. Spend time on the trails walked by Carl Sandburg. Walk around a lake, past his home, by the goat barn, and over the rock where Sandburg often wrote his poetry. Then walk a short distance to visit the quaint shops of the village of Flat Rock. Go by the rock for which the village is named and past the Flat Rock Playhouse (the official NC State Playhouse).

This is a hilly walk; many will want walking poles. A portion of the trail has roots and other tripping hazards. Tennis shoes will be fine for most; if it has rained that day there is one slick place, so be sure your shoes have good tread. Bring a protein snack and water bottle.

The group will gather in the main parking lot at the entrance to the Sandburg property. There are restrooms near the beginning of the walk and near the Sandburg house.

Join us Tuesday for a fun night of trivia at Group Therapy. Whether you’re a trivia expert, or just want to get out of the house on a Tuesday, you’re welcome on our team! Trivia is 7:00 – 9:00pm. We will meet at 6:30pm, to make sure we get a table. Happy hour is 4:00 – 7:00pm if you want to arrive early. Make sure to RSVP as we have a limited number. We comment how to find us 30 minutes before the event.

It’s Bookish Game Night at M. Judson! Join us and our friends at the Greenville County Library for a night of Literary Bingo, complete with prizes. Look for this event once a month, for a regular dose of fun.

A new performance work, titled “Redemption/TIME,” brings together acclaimed poet Jimmy Santiago Baca and jazz violin virtuoso Christian Howes in a unique multimedia collaboration under the direction of Dr. David Gonzalez. The project aims to inspire a new generation through the hard-won life lessons of Santiago-Baca and Howes, and to bring their powerful voices to a wide audience through live performances and streaming services.

In “Redemption/TIME,” Baca’s poetic genius intertwines with Howes’ soulful musicality, along with compelling video design, to create a performance work that aims to “inspire, educate, and motivate audiences across the country,” according to Gonzalez.

Both Baca and Howes have powerful stories to tell, with the former having overcome illiteracy and incarceration to become an award-winning poet, while the latter learned valuable life lessons during his time in prison. Their collaboration is a testament to the power of transformation, resilience, and art.
