And if that weren’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before – keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s ‘normal’ boyfriend and his parents. In one fateful, hilarious night, secrets are disclosed, relationships are tested, and the Addams family must face up to the one horrible thing they’ve managed to avoid for generations: change.

Off-Broadway Classic Vampire Lesbians of Sodom
Nov 1 @ 8:00 pm
West Main Artists Co-Operative

Just in time for Halloween and in celebration of the 35th anniversary of the campy, vampy drag classic, Spartanburg’s award-winning Proud Mary Theatre Company presents the Upstate premiere of Vampire Lesbians of Sodom October 25 – November 2 at the West Main Artists Co-Operative.

One of the longest-running Off-Broadway plays ever, Vampire Lesbians of Sodom was written by renowned female impersonator and Tony-nominated playwright of The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife Charles Busch, who also penned dozens of other plays including the satirical comedies Psycho Beach Party and Die Mommie Die.

In this hilarious spoof of celebrity and stardom, two rival vampires cross paths over thousands of years beginning in the Biblical twin cities, and then again in Hollywood in the silent movie era, and finally, in seedy 1980s Las Vegas.

The play may have a provocative title,” says Artistic Director Sandy Staggs, “But I assure you it is hardly blasphemous or anti-Christian. Vampire Lesbians is merely a hilarious comedy showcasing sophisticated camp at its best.”

David Raulston takes over Busch’s role of Madeleine Astarte while Brigitte Staggs plays her foe La Condesa. Gossip columnist Oatsie Carewe will be played by Jada LaShay Bell, with Sun Schwalm as
Hollywood starlet Renee Vain, Allen Shepard as King Carlisle, Kareem Johnson as Hujar/Zack, Trey Westbrook as Ali/PJ and Brock Davis as the butler Etienne/Danny.

Vampire Lesbians of Sodom is directed by Kevin Treu, who recently helmed Little Shop of Horrors at Centre Stage and will direct Lost Highway: The Hank Williams Story at Spartanburg Little Theatre in January.

Alyssia Chaplin is Stage Manager and Costume Designer.

Proud Mary will celebrate Halloween with a special Upstate Pride Night on Thursday, October 31 featuring a post-show reception and costume contest judged by our two Vampire Lesbians.

Adele Givens (Special Event)
Nov 1 @ 9:30 pm – 11:00 pm
Comedy Zone Greenville

Adele Givens is one of the most underrated overachieving comedians and actors in history. A Chicago-born Queen Midas of sorts, everything Adele touches turns to gold. Beginning her reign in late November of 1989, by Feb. 3, 1990 it was clear Adele was a royal force to be reckoned with. After easily outshining her competition in the Crown Royal comedy competition at the Regal theater in Chicago, Adele went on a streak. Winning and placing in competitions all over Chicago, including the Miller lite Comedy search.

Less than a year after her stand-up debut, Adele went to New York where she was immediately crowned the queen of Def Comedy Jam after turning the audience into a tsunami of laughter with her down home, in your face style of comedy. This led to a continuing relationship with Russell Simmons that would prove to validate the title of ‘queen of comedy’ for Adele. From hosting the HBO special “The Bad Girls of Def Comedy Jam” to hosting the “All Stars of Def Comedy Jam,” and even doing a spoken word piece on “Def Poetry Jam.” Adele has proven to be a source of unlimited talent.

With guest roles on television shows like “The Steve Harvey show,” “The Parkers,” “Moesha,” “Martin,” “Tracey Takes On” and many others, Adele showed the industry that she could outshine any spotlight she was put in. After Adele guest starred on the hit show “The Hughleys,” the producers quickly hired her as a regular cast member and Adele continued for the remainder of the shows’ run. Eventually getting her own television pilot, “The Adele Givens Show,” she even landed the role of the ex-wife of Bernie Mac in his debut sitcom, “Pearl’s Place to Play.”

Never losing her edge for stand up, Adele went on to do an HBO half hour comedy special, as well as a “Comedy Central Presents Adele Givens” half hour. Her most successful Queens of Comedy tour broke records and ensured that Adele’s brand of comedy will maintain an audience long after she has retired. The Queens of Comedy was not only nominated for a Grammy for best spoken word but the Showtime special went on to become the highest rated and longest running special in the history of the network!

Adele made her unforgettable movie debut and earned whole new fan base as a stripper named Tricks in the movie “The Player’s Club” and gave audiences everywhere a sneak peek at her real life radio skills as Atlanta D.J. Hollerin’ Helen in the hit movie “Beauty Shop.” This comes as no surprise to urban radio’s audience who got to hear Adele on her own morning radio show titled “The Crazy Howard Magee and Adele Givens Morning Show” on WGCI 107.5 in Chicago. To hear some of those skills fans can tune in to the syndicated “Tom Joyner Morning Show” where Adele did a weekly segment. Unstoppable, Adele is continuing to make her mark as a writer.

Adele has so much untapped talent, it is impossible to say what she will do next. One thing that is certain though — whatever it is, you can rest assured that it will be certified gold! Adele Givens is ‘Such a Lady!’

Christmas at Biltmore adds a touch of Downton Abbey
Nov 2 all-day
Biltmore

Known for its monumental scale of traditional holiday décor and dazzling lights, this year Biltmore’s annual Christmas at Biltmore celebration will offer even more than ever before.

A yuletide feast for the senses, Christmas at Biltmore begins Nov. 1, 2019. One week later, on Nov. 8, the estate will welcome Downton Abbey: The Exhibition, an immersive experience that celebrates the global hit television series and new feature film.

Biltmore House aglow with five dozen Christmas trees

Biltmore House interiors will shine with the sparkle of more than 50 hand-decorated Christmas trees, ribbons and garlands measured by the mile, and thousands of lights. A majestic 35-foot Fraser fir in the Banquet Hall is the home’s holiday centerpiece. For the first time, hand-decorated Christmas trees will be displayed on the balcony that wraps around the home’s two-story Library.

Candlelight Christmas Evenings

During Candlelight Christmas Evenings, candlelight, firelight, and live music will create a magical environment that elevates seasonal celebrations inside Biltmore House. A 55-foot Norway Spruce on the home’s front lawn lit with 55,000 lights will greet guests as they arrive to enter Biltmore House.

The warm welcome continues at Antler Hill Village & Winery with a constellation of holiday lights leading to the Winery and estate restaurants. A towering tree of lights will illuminate the Village Green, with a sea of lighted grapevine spheres nestled in the landscaping. Lights cascading from the trees that surround the bonfire area near Antler Hill Barn will offer a unique touch to the experience.

Downton Abbey: The Exhibition

Downton Abbey: The Exhibition will feature interactive elements that connect fans to their favorite characters, fashions, locations, and historic events of the era. Showcased in two estate locations, the exhibition pairs seamlessly with the real-life story of the Vanderbilt family at Biltmore. Amherst at Deerpark will host multimedia presentations and some of the series’ most recognizable sets—including Mrs. Patmore’s hectic kitchen and the gossip-fueled servants’ quarters. At The Biltmore Legacy in Antler Hill Village, a gallery of more than 50 costumes from the series will be on view.

The exhibition will run through April 7, 2020. Access to Downton Abbey: The Exhibition is included with daytime admission, Candlelight Christmas Evenings admission, or an overnight stay that includes daytime admission.

Is it your time to serve? South Carolina Women in Leadership
Nov 2 all-day
South Carolina

Filling the Gap

Last week South Carolina Women in Leadership (SC WIL) joined Governor Henry McMaster and Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette in calling on more women to consider serving on state boards and commissions.

Hundreds of open seats, as well as those with expiring terms, are appointed by our Governor. Additionally, legislative delegations select nominees for others boards. These are important positions that qualified women could – and should – fill.

When we overlook capable women, we shortchange our state. Board decision-making requires the ability to hear and consider different points of view, which come from people who have different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.

Women make up 51.5 percent of the population in South Carolina but are vastly underrepresented in state government. Our co-chairs present diverse backgrounds as they support our work in recruiting diverse and qualified candidates for boards and commissions.

The Asheville Marathon & Half at Biltmore Estate Sign Up Now
Nov 2 all-day
Biltmore Estate

Woman running in front Biltmore House.jpg

The Asheville Marathon began 8 years ago with only a marathon option, which sold out quickly in its first year, and again the next year. A nationwide interest in half marathons was becoming popular, so for the 3rd year a half marathon option was added.  In the 4th year, the event expanded to two days of races and a half marathon on each day.  To add a twist in the 5th year the Backyard to Vineyard Challenge was created, where participants race in the Saturday half and Sunday full. The challenge was very popular and for the 6th anniversary, Backyard to Backyard Challenge was added, where participants run both the Saturday half and the Sunday half. Now in its 8th year both days of races, including the challenges, are expected to be sold out, with 3,100 participants.

The Asheville Marathon & Half at Biltmore Estate is held on and run entirely on the grounds of the Biltmore Estate, where runners will wind through paved and packed dirt roads to see hardwood forest, meadows, gardens, and extraordinary views of the Biltmore House and Estate. This is the original Asheville Marathon and first race of its kind to come to Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina; don’t miss out on being part of history at Biltmore Estate.

For more information about the Asheville Marathon & Half at Biltmore Estate, visit
