Gather at the River: 25 Authors on Fishing
Jun 11 @ 7:00 pm
M. Judson Booksellers

A perfect Father’s Day event and gift, this is an event you won’t want to miss. Join us at M.Judson on Tuesday, June 11 at 7 pm to meet some of the authors who contributed to Gather at the River, a collection of 25 authors’ thoughts on fishing. Gather at the River includes Ron Rash writing about a 50-year-old fly reel and NYT bestselling author C.J. Box revealing the river where he wants his ashes spread. This is an anthology about friendship, family, love and loss, and everything in between, because as Henry David Thoreau wrote, “it is not really about the fish they are after.”

Several of the contributing authors will be there, including David Joy, Scott Gould, JC Sasser, Mark Powell, and Ray McManus. Don’t let this night be the one that got away!

When Domestic Violence Comes to Work
Jun 12 @ 8:00 am – 4:45 pm
Employers Network

WHEN DOMESTIC VIOLENCE COMES TO WORK

Did you know???

One in three women and one in four men have been victims (of some form) of domestic violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.

Domestic violence has been estimated to cost US employers up to $13 billion each year.

Between one-quarter and one-half of domestic violence victims report they lost a job at least in part due to domestic violence.

(Source: National Network to End Domestic Violence)

Six Upstate South Carolina area organizations are working together to host a dynamic and interactive full-day workshop, “When Domestic Violence Comes to Work,” on Wednesday, June 12, at Thornblade Club.

Workshop hosts include Employers Network, Greenville Chamber, Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, Safe Harbor, Safe Homes-Rape Crisis, and Steps to HOPE.

Participants will learn what to do if an employee is a victim of domestic violence and what community resources are available to assist.

Workshop registration and a continental breakfast will begin at 8:30 a.m. The workshop will start at 9 a.m., and end at 4:30 p.m. Guests will be treated to a Thornblade Club buffet lunch.

WORKSHOP OVERVIEW

Participants will gain an understanding of:

Obstacles that victims of domestic violence face (including employment)

How domestic violence can create a barrier to holding or excelling at a job

The complexity of domestic violence situations

Resources that are available to employers to address domestic violence situations

Tools to prevent domestic violence from coming to work
