Welcome to the Annual Year of the Sandhills Trail & Ultra Festival that will be held at this urban State Park in Columbia South Carolina! Sesquicentennial (Sesqui) State Park is located in the heart of Columbia and includes 1400 acres of single track trails, beautiful lake scenes, camping with several kid family actives and facilities. There are 12 complete miles of trails that encompass the park that showcase the Sandhills region.

Join us for one of our 30 events throughout the year. With something for everyone we have races that extend throughout the Upstate of South Carolina. From Lake Hartwell through the Foothill Mountain Range. Locations that cover all of the State Park systems into the Streets of Anderson, Greenville, Travelers Rest, and Spartanburg. We have events that offer opportunity to every level of runner looking to take on their next challenge!

• What: 30 Hour Run – 50k – 25k – 7.5 Mile

• Packet Pickup: 1 Hour Prior to your race start time near starting line

• Overall Awards will be given out at the conclusion of the race

• Age group winners will be recognized in the results tab and our point series.

Sandhills Course Description

• Course Map HERE – Elevation Gain Per 7.5 mile loop – 215 Feet

The course is a 7.5 mile loop that rolls through several sections north of the main trail but comes back to some beautiful and fast single track trails around the lake. The terrain consist of clean single track trails, wider softer trails, and some paved sections around the lake. The looped course runs through the parking lot so runners will be able to set up a 10 x 10 space for the duration of the event.

Art Exhibition: Leonardo da Vinci – 500 Years of Genius

With unrivaled arena production quality, Jurassic World comes to life against a backdrop of captivating scenery where dinosaurs from the iconic franchise, including fan-favorite Velociraptor Blue and a Tyrannosaurus rex more than 40 feet in length, take center stage. The production features more than 24 film-accurate, life-sized dinosaurs, with scale, speed and ferocity, operated by animatronics and performers.

Jurassic World’s unmistakable score combined with projection and practical scenery transforms the arena into the dense jungles of Isla Nublar, where real Gyrospheres roll through the valley and scientists work to unravel a corrupt plan and save anew dinosaur from a terrible fate. With pulse-pounding stunts and an original, authentic storyline, this show is guaranteed to make memories that will last another 65 million years.

On exhibit Saturdays and Sundays from 12 – 4 p.m., Rocky Cove Railroad is a G-Scale (garden scale) model train that demonstrates the coming of trains to western North Carolina at the turn of the 20th century. The exhibit is located below the Grand Promenade. Please note, Rocky Cove Railroad will not operate in rainy or wet conditions.

At this film festival, we will be showing a veritoty of short films that were created in South Carolina and North Carolina.

Andy Warhol

One of the 20^th century’s best-known artists, Andy Warhol (1928-1987) made his name in the early 1960s with paintings and prints of brand celebrities and foods ranging from Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor to Coca-Cola and Campbell’s Soup.  These brash, innovative works are considered icons of Pop Art, a movement that both critiqued and celebrated postwar American consumer culture.  By the end of the decade, Warhol had become a celebrity in his own right, equally famous for his platinum wig and the star-studded parties he threw in his studio, the Factory, as he was for his paintings, drawings, sculpture, and films.

Before spearheading the Pop Art movement, in the 1950s Warhol achieved success on Madison Avenue as one of New York’s most popular advertising artists.  A skilled and inventive illustrator, Warhol won several Art Director’s Club awards for his work on Columbia records LP cover designs, I. Miller shoe drawings, and additional advertising work for Martini & Rossi, Glamour, Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue magazines.

Once his Pop art career exploded in 1962, Warhol focused on silkscreen painting and filmmaking.  He based his paintings on imagery he found in the American mass media: news photos, celebrity head shots, film stills, comics, logos, and advertisements. To convert his source images into paintings, Warhol made them into photo silkscreens and printed them on canvas.  Smudges, misalignments, and inconsistencies were accepted, giving the paintings a handmade appearance.  Sometimes the paintings included a single image, as in John Wayne (1986) and the Endangered Species series (1983).  These became larger-than-life iconic portraits, while those printed in grids, suggested the way that repetition can simultaneously embed an image in one’s memory and deaden its effect.

Works by Warhol, at the Upcountry History Museum, on loan from The Cochran Collection, LaGrange, GA, will feature 36 iconic masterworks by Warhol, dating from 1968 through his last series done in 1986. This once-in-a- lifetime exhibition includes a broad cross-section of examples from Warhol’s storied career.

The exhibit explores Warhol’s responses to major moments in U.S. history, including the assassination of John F. Kennedy, Neil Armstrong’s moon landing, and the perception of Native Americans in the aftermath of the bicentennial of the United States. Also included is Warhol’s entire series of “Myths”.  This body of work was completed in 1981 and showcases Warhol’s lifetime fascination with Hollywood imagery.  “Myths” marks a return to Warhol’s formative encounters with figures such as Howdy Doody, the Wicked Witch of the West, Superman, Mickey Mouse and many more.

Now is the time to seize the day! Based off the smash hit Broadway musical, Disney’s Newsies Jr. is a rousing tale inspired by the true story of newsboys in turn-of-the-century New York City. When publishers raise prices at the newsboys’ expense, the charismatic Jack Kelly rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions. Together, the newsies learn that they are stronger united and create a movement to fight for what’s right. Featuring a Tony-award winning score, and jaw dropping dance sequences, Disney’s Newsies Jr. will be a stunning SYT event you won’t soon forget!

• Crutchie is taken to jail

• Crutchie hits someone with his crutch.

• Jack gets grabbed forcefully and taken to Pulitzer’s office

• Fight scene where several characters get hurt, however there is no blood or death, just scrapes and bruises

• When describing a fight, newsies say “cops will bust our heads! Half them strikers is laid up with broken bones”.

The Greenville State Farmers Market includes retail sheds and farmer stalls that offer a wide variety of locally grown products and specialty goods. Both quality and variety are standards for the volume of products offered for sale at the Greenville State Farmers Market. Market operations continue Monday – Saturday all year long, ceasing for only two holidays: Christmas and New Year’s Day.

On February 2, 2023, at 6:00 pm, Chloe Alexander will present a Gallery Talk discussing CONSTRUCT & ASSEMBLE and her art process. The talk will be followed by a reception from 6:30-8:00 pm.

CONSTRUCT & ASSEMBLE will run in the Milliken Art Gallery from February 2-March 2, 2023. Gallery hours are Sunday 2:00-5:00pm, Monday – Friday 9:00am-5:00pm. The Gallery is closed during school holidays.
