VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

The Children’s Advocacy Center could not accomplish our mission without our volunteers. Several volunteers this year have supported our mission by sharing their talents and dedication.

Our volunteers help in the following areas:

  • Help at reception desk

  • Address and stuff envelopes

  • Keep play/waiting area neat

  • Sanitize the waiting room toys

  • Help with various organizational projects

  • Help display and take down holiday decorations

  • Organize donation drives

  • Volunteer with Special Events and Fundraisers

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old

  • Complete an application

  • Consent to a background check

  • Sign a pledge of confidentiality

  • Provide felony and misdemeanor conviction information

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Children’s Advocacy Center also provides unpaid internships for bachelor’s and master’s level students that may include the following experiences:

  • Observe licensed clinicians within the professional setting

  • Participate in multi-disciplinary team staff meetings

  • Visit with partnering agencies, such as Project R.E.S.T., the Solicitor’s Office, the Department of Social Services, or the Guardian ad Litem Office

  • Attend family or criminal court hearings and observe Children’s Advocacy Center staff as expert witnesses

  • Participate in agency projects/research as assigned

  • Assist with administrative tasks

Internships will require:

  • An in-person interview

  • Completion of background checks

  • Current enrollment in a master’s level program in Psychology, Social Work, or other related field at an accredited university

  • Current enrollment in a bachelor’s level program in Psychology, Social Work, or other related field at an accredited university

  • The intern must not require direct client hours

Meals on Wheels of Greenville is looking for help with our 30th Annual Sweetheart Charity Ball on Saturday, February 22, 2025. This is our largest fundraising event of the year with a goal of raising $500,000 to support our homebound clients.

 Join our Sweetheart Charity Ball committee  

We are looking for volunteers to help solicit auction items for both live and silent auctions, as well as sponsorship recruitment. The committee meets monthly from August to December and then bi-monthly in January.

Carl Sandburg Home Volunteer Opportunity: Goat Barn Attendant

Carl Sandburg Home Historic Site
Goat Barn Attendant: Are you interested in helping our park rangers care for the dairy goats at Connemara Farms? These goats require daily care, including feeding, grooming, and cleaning of their stalls. We also share the story of the Sandburg family and their special herd with thousands of visitors each year.
Anyone 18 and older who has 4 hours a week to dedicate to the park is encouraged to apply for this volunteer opportunity. Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site
House Tour Guide: Join the park staff in sharing the story of the poet, biographer, journalist, children’s author, and song collector Carl Sandburg. Volunteers provide house tours to the visiting public, assist in special events, and if desired assist with education visits. We provide hands-on experience, training and a sense of satisfaction in sharing our National Park Service treasure.  We supply a uniform shirt and nametag, as well as information and training materials.  In addition, volunteers engage in annual field trips, training sessions, and an annual award banquet. Attending a virtual orientation, short phone interview, and in-person training are required. We need volunteers to pack nearly 1,500 meals every Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until approximately 10:00 a.m. The food is prepared by our kitchen staff and set-up in an assembly line for packaging.

PET FOOD PACKAGING

Meals on Wheels also strives to help the pets of the homebound in Greenville. We need volunteers to package dog and cat food for monthly distribution and to organize pet food drives.

Rocky Cove Railroad Exhibit

NC Arboretum

On exhibit Saturdays and Sundays from 12 – 4 p.m., Rocky Cove Railroad is a G-Scale (garden scale) model train that demonstrates the coming of trains to western North Carolina at the turn of the 20th century. The exhibit is located below the Grand Promenade. Please note, Rocky Cove Railroad will not operate in rainy or wet conditions.

Empower Hour
