MAI (Movement Art Is) is an organization that uses movement artistry to inspire and change the world while elevating the artistic, educational, and social impact of dance. Join MAI co-founders Jon Boogz and Lil Buck at the intimate McGlohon Theater as they present their work and discuss dance as a tool to educate and empower. The evening will include a moderated conversation and powerful dance piece featuring the duo, as well as a screening of their award-winning short film, “Color of Reality.” See how MAI is resetting the spectrum of what dance is and inspiring change in the world.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Jon Boogz is a movement artist, choreographer, and director who pushes the evolution of dance – sharing his art form with audiences of all backgrounds while inspiring and bringing awareness to social issues. With collaborators and clients including Mikhail Baryshnikov, Naomi Campbell, and TriBeCa Film Festival, Boogz’s most recent critically acclaimed project is Color of Reality, a short film he wrote, directed, and choreographed in collaboration with visual artist Alexa Meade and dancer Lil Buck. Lil Buck is a movement artist who began jookin at age 13. Named one of Dance Magazine’s 25 to Watch, he gained international notoriety after an impromptu piece with Yo-Yo Ma went viral. Since then he has collaborated with artists including JR, Damian Woetzel, the New York City Ballet, Madonna, Benjamin Millepied, and Spike Lee. Buck is an avid arts education advocate, recipient of the WSJ Innovator Award. He has collaborated with brands like Glenfiddich and Louis Vuitton, and launched a capsule collection with Versace.

Gabe Dixon released his sophomore solo album, Turns To Gold, on April 8th, 2016. Produced by Paul Moak (Mat Kearney, Third Day), engineered by Devin Vaughan (Marc Broussard), and mastered by Brad Blackwood at Euphonics Mastering (Allison Krauss &;Union Station, Luther Dickinson), the LP marks Gabe’s first official collection as an independent artist. Following the release of 2011’s One Spark, the Nashville-based troubadour changed almost everything. He was focused on starting from scratch, and parted ways with his longtime management and record label, Concord Music Group. The one thing that didn’t change was that honest, heartfelt approach to songwriting that countless fans fell in love with when he first emerged in 1999.
Throughout his career, many other notable artists have taken note of and supported Gabe’s immense talents. He’s opened for and toured with the likes of Loggins & Messina, Gavin DeGraw and Delta Rae, as well as held side gigs as the keyboardist and vocalist for Paul McCartney, Alison Krause & Union Station, O.A.R. and Supertramp. His songs have received placements on major television shows including
Parks and Recreation, Grey’s Anatomy, and Vampire Diaries, and his song “Find My Way” served as the title for the box office hit The Proposal starring Sandra Bullock. Fans have seen him perform twice on Jimmy Kimmel LIVE!, as well as The Late Late
Show with Craig Ferguson, and on festival stages everywhere from Bonnaroo to High Sierra Music Festival. However, it’s with Turns To Gold that listeners will hear Gabe Dixon as he always meant.

NAPOLEON, IT’S REVOLUTIONARY
Greenville Chautauqua’s Winter Festival
No military figure in history has been quite as polarizing as Napoleon Bonaparte. Was he a monster, driven by an endless, ruinous quest for military glory? Or a social and political visionary brought down by petty, reactionary kings of Europe?
The French Revolution had taken a dark turn when a 23-year-old Corsican second lieutenant arrived in Paris and saw Louis XVI dethroned. By 30 he was head of the most powerful country in Europe. At his death at 52 in exile, Europe had been changed forever.
One of the first truly modern politicians, he fashioned himself as a hero who successfully dragged France back from the edge of the abyss. Master of media manipulation, this idealized image of Napoleon has endured to this day.
Napoleon’s complex and violent legacy seeded totalitarian regimes in the 20th century and sounds an alert to us in the 21st.
Napoleon portrayed by Mark Schneider
Mark Schneider tours nationally as Napoleon and has appeared in films as well as performing more “American” historical figures in Colonial Williamsburg. Here in Greenville, for one weekend only you can see him as Napoleon. History comes alive as “The Little Corporal” takes the stage and reflects on his life, his military strategies, his social prowess and more. Then following his performance, you get to ask him the questions you’ve always wanted to ask!

Friday, February 8
7:00 PM – Edward David Anderson
8:30 PM – Sugarcane Jane
10:00 PM – Caleb Caudle
Sugarcane Jane, the Alabama Gulf Coast-based husband and wife duo has amassed an extremely loyal following. Anthony and Savana Lee Crawford purvey what they proudly call “Organic Music at its Finest.” Rich, homegrown, and natural, their brand of Americana draws from a deep well of roots influences, interwoven with inflections of gospel, country, folk, and rock. Listeners can expect mostly acoustic sounds, and some of the freshest-sounding vocal harmonies they will ever hear. Both virtuosos in their own right, Anthony is a songwriter who plays acoustic guitar, harmonica, and a bass drum (which he plays while strumming his six-string) and Savana Lee deftly dances between ukelele bass and snare drum.
Multi-instrumentalist Anthony Crawford is known in most circles as a sideman to the stars. Over the course of the last 25 years, he has performed with Neil Young, Sonny James, Steve Winwood, Dwight Yoakam,Vince Gill, Rosanne Cash, and Rodney Crowell, and has written / co-written songs recorded by Steve Winwood, Dwight Yoakam, Kenny Rogers, Pegi Young, Lee Greenwood, and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, to name a few.Yet, even with his history of working with heavyweights, Crawford feels Sugarcane Jane – his musical venture with multi- instrumentalist wife Savana Lee Crawford, is his life’s calling.
Sugarcane Jane newest studio album, Southern State of Mind – an album they conceived and co-produced with legendary Americana/Roots singer-songwriter Buzz Cason is some of their finest work to date. The album is set to be released via Cason’s ArenA Recordings / eOne Entertainment on October 19, 2018. Recorded at Crawford’s Admiral Bean Studio, and mixed at Buzz Cason’s Creative Workshop in Nashville, this fast-paced, high- energy album traverses a range of moods and stories.
“Light hearted and feel good tunes, much like our Dirt Road’s End album.” says Anthony. “Once again, the harmonies take center stage yet classic timeless lyrics and melodies are not far behind.”
