The Greenville State Farmers Market includes retail sheds and farmer stalls that offer a wide variety of locally grown products and specialty goods. Both quality and variety are standards for the volume of products offered for sale at the Greenville State Farmers Market. Market operations continue Monday – Saturday all year long, ceasing for only two holidays: Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Embark on a scenic journey across George Vanderbilt’s Italy with a large-scale outdoor display that combines brilliant botanical designs with authentic messages written by Vanderbilt himself.
Beautifully handcrafted of natural elements, each sculptural postcard depicts a location or landmark Vanderbilt visited more than a century ago. This captivating complement to Biltmore’s Italian Renaissance Alive exhibition reveals Vanderbilt’s passions for travel, culture, architecture, and art as well as his personal experience of such renowned Italian cities as Milan, Florence, Venice, Pisa, and Vatican City.
Adding to the charm and visual appeal of Ciao! From Italy—sure to be a hit among kids of all ages—is the G-scale model train that travels in and out of each postcard in this enlightening display!

The Swamp Rabbit Trail is a 22-mile multi-use (walking and bicycling) greenway that traverses along the Reedy River, an old railroad corridor and City parks to connect Travelers Rest with the city of Greenville, South Carolina.
From our location, you can venture south on the trail through Greenville’s many parks. The Swamp Rabbit links up with Falls Park on the Reedy, Cancer Survivors Park and down into Cleveland Park. Heading north, you’ll see how the trail has transformed from an old railbed to a thriving trail with many breweries and eateries, as you head toward Furman University (7 miles) and Travelers Rest (1 miles).
Running every Monday/Wednesday 9:30am and 2:30pm and Fridays at 2:30pm

Colorful adventures in literacy and STEAM learning await in the special exhibition, “Very Eric Carle: A Very Hungry, Quiet, Lonely, Clumsy, Busy Exhibit,” making its Southeastern United States debut at the Upcountry History Museum, Greenville, SC.
At this play-and-learn exhibit, co-organized by The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art, Amherst, Massachusetts, and the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, visitors step into the pages of author and illustrator Eric Carle’s colorful picture books and experience them as artist and reader, while discovering and playing with five special insects from his well-known children’s books.
Carle’s classic “Very” book series, is reimagined in the 2,500 square foot exhibition. Utilizing Carle’s hand-painted tissue paper collage technique, the exhibit presents the five “Very” special insects who invite visitors to join them on their journeys of discovery.
Through interactive experiences, visitors become the “tiny and very hungry Caterpillar,” following along his iconic path. They also weave a web with the “Very Busy Spider;” find their light with the “Very Lonely Firefly;” make the “Very Clumsy Click Beetle” flip and jump; and compose a night symphony with the “Very Quiet Cricket.”
In “The Studio,” a flexible workspace, visitors are connected to the artist and his playful approach of creating illustrated book art through multiple hands-on activities. Children create their own collages using many of Eric Carle’s materials and techniques.
In the “Reading Zone” children and their caregivers explore visual literacy and reading through words, pictures and video. Visitors are invited to listen to Eric Carle read his stories and talk about his process or read their own favorite Eric Carle story with a friend
Each of the “Very” stories are a testament to Eric Carle’s love of nature, his respect for the emotional lives of children, and his recurring themes of friendship, creativity, and the power of imagination.
The creator of more than seventy books, Eric Carle (1929-2021) combined winsome stories and lively collages that appeal to young readers and adults alike. While Carle’s stories are charming, they’re layered with information too. As children read his books about animals, families, nature, and fables, they also learn their colors, numbers, and letters. Eric Carle focused on making learning accessible and fun – and in the process, he invited children to fall in love with books and reading.
“Shine and Dine” on the railway! We cordially invite you to hop on board The Carolina Shine, GSMR’s All-Adult First Class Moonshine Car! We will be proudly serving hand crafted, triple-distilled, craft moonshine. Some of the smoothest tasting moonshine in the Carolinas! Offered on the Nantahala Gorge excursion, this shine and dine experience begins in a renovated First Class train fleet car, The Carolina Shine. The interior features copper lined walls filled with the history of moonshining in North Carolina. Learn about the proud tradition that the Appalachians established when bootlegging was an acceptable way of life and local home brews were the best in town. Read about Swain County’s very own Major Redmond, the most famous mountain moonshine outlaw of the 19th century. Once your appetite for knowledge is satisfied, enjoy sample tastings of flavors like Apple Pie, Blackberry, Blueberry, Cherry, Peach, and Strawberry moonshine. If the samples are not enough, there will be plenty of Moonshine infused cocktails like Copper Cola or Moonshiner’s Mimosa available for purchase. GSMR is excited to feature multiple craft NC based distilleries to serve our guests only the best! Each jar is handcrafted and authentically infused with real fruit, the way moonshine was meant to be made. Passengers will also enjoy a full service All-Adult First Class ride with an attendant and our popular Cajun seasoned Pulled Pork BBQ with Sweet Baby Ray’s sauce cooked in our special spices and slow roasted to perfection! During the month of October, 9am departures will feature the option of a delicious Cheesy Shrimp & Grits or Cheesy Ham Hash Brown Casserole while 2pm departures will be served the popular BBQ meal.
Our city has great architectural examples of styles that span the last 200 years and charming neighborhoods that give them context.
Our downtown is blessed with a selection of historic neighborhoods that encircle our city center, providing a great mix of the progress surrounding the Main Street area with the stability of traditional domestic living. As the young village of Greenville formed in the late 1700s, homes were naturally scattered around the region with large tracts of land tied to them. This tour traces the development of Greenville’s neighborhoods on the North and West sides of the Reedy River, taking you on a pleasant drive to see the variety of architectural styles, hear stories of their home-owners, and understand the role in Greenville’s revitalization.
Tours will take place in a comfortable Ford Transit high-roof tour van. Digital photographs will be shown on a screen to provide insights into the information that you hear from the tour guide. Your tour guide, John Nolan, is a local historian and author of “A Guide to Historic Greenville, SC” and “The Lost Restaurants of Greenville, SC

GENERAL AUDITION INFO
CASTING POLICIES: Auditions are open to youth in the 3rd-12th grades, however the director for each show may look for a more specific age range that may not always include the younger ages. Specific age requirements and casting information for each show are posted in the Audition Notice for each production above. No roles have been pre-cast unless otherwise specifically stated in the audition notice. Youth of all ethnicities and backgrounds are encouraged to audition.
ETIQUETTE:

Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to fill out any necessary information sheets. Actors will audition in the order that they arrive. They do not need to stay the entire 2 hours of auditions. They will be able to leave once they audition.

Make sure to wear clothes and shoes that are comfortable to move around in. SYT discourages actors from “dressing up” for the part they desire. Actors should wear clothes that they feel comfortable in and that show their own personality and style.

Actors are required to prepare a 1 minute monologue for the audition.

Actors should choose a monologue that shows off strong acting choices, clear diction and volume, and that is age-appropriate.

Memorization of your monologue is highly encouraged.

If you do not have a monologue, one will be provided for you at the audition. Monologues are available ahead of time, one month prior to auditions, at the Spartanburg Youth Theatre offices in the kiosk at the end of the hallway when you walk down the stairs to our area. You may use one of these monologues, or you may use one of your own choosing.

Actors are required to prepare 16-32 bars of a musical theatre song for the audition. A song from a musical is recommended, however actors may sing any type of song.

Actors should choose a song that shows off vocal range, allows for strong acting choices, and that is age-appropriate.

Actors should bring their own sheet music. An accompanist will be provided. Singing from a music track or singing acapella is highly discouraged.

Memorization of your song is highly encouraged.

Singing a song from the specific show you’re auditioning for is discouraged. We prefer to hear your own style and range in a song you’re comfortable with from any show other than the one you’re auditioning for. Callbacks are when we’ll be able to hear you sing songs from the show.

REGISTRATION: Save time and fill out your audition form ahead of time. An online audition form will be available the Friday before auditions on the Auditions page of our website (above). If you fill out your form ahead of time, head straight to the check-in table when you arrive and tell them you filled out your form online. It is not mandatory to fill out your form in advance. You may still fill out the form when you arrive.
WHERE: All auditions are held at the Chapman Cultural Center at 200 E. St. John Street, Spartanburg, South Carolina, 29306. Look for signs directing you where to go for registration.
WHEN: Please note the above audition dates and times for the current Spartanburg Youth Theatre season. Auditions are typically Tuesdays & Wednesdays from 5:30-7:30pm. Actors may arrive at any time during the 2 hour slot. Actors will audition in the order that they arrive. They do not need to stay the entire 2 hours of auditions. They will be able to leave once they audition.
Actors should only audition one of the two nights offered. If an actor cannot audition on the two offered dates, we MAY be able to accommodate a separate audition date, but we cannot guarantee it. Please contact us directly.
CALLBACKS: If necessary, the director may hold callbacks to see certain actors again before casting the show. If callbacks are necessary, they are typically held the Saturday following auditions, however callbacks are subject to change depending on actor and director availability. If an actor is unable to attend callbacks, we MAY be able to accommodate a separate callback date, but we cannot guarantee it. If called back, contact us and we will see what we can do.
If an actor must arrive late or leave early, we will do our best to accommodate the conflict, but cannot guarantee that we will be able to make sure the actor is seen before they have to leave early or after they’ve arrived late.
A callback list will be posted on the Auditions page of our website (above), usually the Thursday after auditions. At callbacks, actors will read scenes from the script. For musicals, in addition to reading scenes, actors will learn songs from the show and learn a short dance combination.

Do you have a boundary-pushing, innovative performance piece, short film or installation that you’re ready to share?
We will open applications for the film portion of the festival in fall 2023. Films must be submitted via FilmFreeway. Our application fee for films is $5.
NOW CONSIDERING WORKS OF ALL KINDS
We accept live performances from 5 to 60 minutes in length, plus installations and films. We’re open to other types of performance as well – let’s talk! Depending on its length, your piece may be grouped with another show, or scheduled as a Random Act of Fringe. RAFs are free and open to the public, and artists receive a stipend for their performance, rather than relying on door sales.
Typically each artist with a ticketed show gets 2 performances. But in 2024, we’re exploring the option of giving a few shows 3 performances, at select venues only. Our venues range from 20-80 person capacity.
