SPACE Artwalk Opening Reception and Open House
Sep 20 @ 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Spartanburg Area Conservancy

For the first time, Neue South Collective and Spartanburg Area Conservancy (SPACE) will be participating in the Spartanburg Art Walk on Thursday September 20th from 5-8pm. Neue South and SPACE have lined up a multi-artist show who will fill the hallways and windows of the historic Palmetto Building in downtown Spartanburg for a fun and festive night to celebrate local artists. The space has generously been donated by Spartanburg Downtown Apartments (SPDA).

Those entering the building from 123 Dunbar Street will first see Caren Stansell’s installation entitled “Accumulation” in SPACE’s front window. Caren is a graduate of Converse and is currently pursuing her MFA from Clemson University. She is a printmaker and sculptor whose work is an exploration of an Appalachian dumpsite. Her installation challenges the viewer to think about consumerism and waste.

In recent weeks, SPACE and the Interior Design Program at Converse have been working to conceptualize an education and events facility that could be built on SPACE’s Cleveland Farm Property. Sallie Belue from Thicketty Mountain Farm and Andrew Waters from SPACE have worked closely with Converse Professors Ruth Beals and Meirev Goldhour to help drive student design concepts. Students have been challenged to design the interior of a barn that could be used by SPACE for educational and entertainment events; taking in consideration storage needs, catering opportunities, restrooms, lighting and more. Their final projects will be on display that night as well. This event is sponsored by Spruce Curated Interiors.

Neue South Collective has also lined up a handful of artists whose work will be on display. Visitors who enter the Palmetto Building from 100 East Main Street will be greeted by a guest DJ and art inspired by energy and environment from:

Frankie Zombie @frankie.zombie_
Louise Johnson Art &Interiors @louisejohnsoninteriors
Scott Neely @neelysj
Maggie McDonald Art @maggssmac.art
Elizabeth Bagwell Studios @elizabethbagwellstudios
Davelyn Athena @willow.athena

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of artwork will go to SPACE, whose mission is to protect and conserve land for Spartanburg area citizens, volunteer landowners, and visitors by building strong relationships within the community through positive outreach.

Please visit the Palmetto Lofts building on Thursday September 20th. The Neue South and SPACE artists will be on display from 5-8pm. This event is free and open to the public. For more information about Spartanburg Area Conservancy, contact Alix Refshauge at: [email protected] For more information about Neue South Collective, contact Kathryn Harvey at: [email protected]

The Black Thai Food Truck
Sep 20 @ 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm
Fireforge Crafted Beer

Dat Black Thai is Back!

The Black Thai offers modern-American-styled Thai-flavor-influenced street food, made by three regular guys in Greenville, South Carolina.

The inspiration for Black Thai comes from their experience out West, living, cooking and skiing the Jackson Hole dream together.

After moving back home to GVL, TBT founders, Dean Johnson, Brayden Wynn and Charlie Phillip, wanted to live free like the Jackson dream, or “thai hard” doing it.

That is when The Black Thai food truck was born. A concept centered around the Taste of the Tetons, inspired by Jackson’s swanky mountain-cowboy culture.

At The Black Thai, no tie is ever required. Only great food. quality service. and an amazing time.
