ABOUT BROOKS DIXON TRIO
“As if his music wasn’t convincing enough, his friendly stage presence and natural vibe with his audiences make it easy to become a fan of the young man. Not only that, but he’s also perfected the songwriting formula to match his style: a little bluesy, a little poppy, 100% authentic..”
-Shutter16 Magazine
Brooks Dixon began performing his original music as a student at Clemson University first taking the stage in 2012 at Moe Joe’s Coffee Company. As momentum began to mount, Dixon began to take his music more seriously, leading to his first EP, the independently released “Stone Pile EP” in 2014.
After the release Brooks returned to his hometown of Greenville, South Carolina, where he quickly gained momentum playing the local bars and coffee shops, drawing comparisons to Folk-Pop icons James Taylor and Ray LaMontange. He began touring regionally, and soon met Greenville Singer-Songwriter Sara Middleton. The two teamed up with other Greenville players to form the group “Brooks Dixon & The Noble Sound”. Shortly after, they found themselves performing their unique soulful harmonies for thousands at Downtown Alive. Dixon set out to Nashville to record a second EP “Weather the Storm” in early 2016. In large part, due to the band, Dixon found his songs taking on a fuller more robust Americana tone.
“Weather the Storm” lead to new heights for Brooks and the band, as they found their way on stage at numerous regional festivals and clubs throughout the Southeast. Shortened in name and members, the “Brooks Dixon Band” found cohesion with a 5 piece group, Dixon on vocals and guitar, Middleton’s smooth harmonies and occasional lead vocals, Shane Byler on the Drums, Ross Krieg on the Saxophone, and Bennett Dixon on the bass. The group hit the studio in early 2017 and released their first band single “Good Intentions” a song featuring a more upbeat take on Dixon’s songwriting.
The group continues to tour regionally in the southeast, as well as provide music for all occasions. Flexibility has been their calling card, Dixon is comfortable performing solo, as a duo with Middleton, a trio of saxophone, guitar, and drums, as well as with the full band.

The Upper South Carolina Council of the Navy League is pleased to announce that Lieutenant Commander Bob Overturf, USN (ret.), will be the guest speaker at its September 12, 2019, dinner program at the Poinsett Club in Greenville, SC.
On October 12, 2000, eleven months before the 9/11 attacks, the United States guided missile destroyer USS Cole docked in the Yemen port of Aden to refuel. On that sunny morning, the 8,400-ton destroyer was shattered by an enormous explosion. The ship had been attacked by al-Qaeda suicide bombers in a small boat loaded with explosives. LCDR Overturf was part of the crew of nearly 300 and survived the blast that claimed the lives of 17 sailors.
Battered and injured, the crew members spent the next day and a half working to save the ship. There were no waiting ambulances or firefighters to assist, only the shaken crew of the Cole. It took another 36 to 48 hours for another Navy ship to arrive. The crew had to fight for the next 18 days to keep the ship afloat and to survive.
The public is cordially invited to join us for this unique opportunity to hear first-hand from an officer serving aboard the Cole about the events leading up to the attack, the heroic efforts by the crew to save the ship, and the aftermath that affected both the crew and the future of US Navy rules of engagement. LCDR Overturf played a critical role in saving the Cole and for his efforts he was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal by the Secretary of the Navy.
Tickets are $33 per person and include dinner. For details and reservation information, please go to: http://bit.ly/NavyLeagueDinner091219 or email [email protected].
The Navy League is a civilian non-profit organization whose mission is to support the sea services: Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and US-Flagged Merchant Marine. It does this through informational programs, support of sea service personnel and their families, youth programs, and other local area programs.
Every time you drive down a street, has it occurred to you that maybe that street name has an interesting story or person attached to its origin? If you’re curious or have the answers to that question, join us for an informative genealogy session on Thursday, Sept. 12 at the historic Belton Train Depot, beginning at 6:30 PM.
Mr. Rich Otter, amateur historian and Anderson County Genealogical Society board member, has been gathering the stories of street name origins in the City of Anderson. He has furthered this research with assistance from historical entities in the municipalities of Anderson County. His findings along with a sharing session from audience members will be the purpose of this quarter’s Family Trees and Me genealogy series.
Family Trees and Me is a four-session genealogy series sponsored by the Belton Area Museum Association. The first program in February of this year centered on the the political and social life of Craytonville followed by the dedication of the historic marker for that crossroads. The second program in May dealt with Native American ancestry. The final presentation in November will feature guest speaker Dr. Tim Drake who will focus on the Huguenots of SC.
Free to BAMA members, all others will be charged a $5 fee to attend, payable at the door that evening.
BAMA memberships begin at $20 for individuals, $30 for families, and range up to $1000. All donations are tax deductible.

“I look like an insider because of everything I‘ve done but I always felt like an outsider,” Darrell Scott says. “And that’s important—to be an outsider.” He’s also a master.
Whether its’ rock, folk, country or blues, Darrell Scott, the 4-time Grammy nominated Nashville songwriter, has written hits all the way from Brad Paisley and the Dixie Chicks to Del McCoury, Sam Bush and Keb Mo; contributing songs to three of 2016’s best albums alone. ‘It’s not surprising that Scott wrote nine of the 14 songs on his own new album, “Couchville Sessions,” and less surprising that he wrote three songs with the like-minded Americana artist Hayes Carll on Carll’s magnificent new disc, “Lovers and Leavers,”’ in addition to “1000 Things” from Sarah Jarosz’s award winning “Build Me Up From Bones” album.
What’s more surprising is that Scott came off of a year and a half of touring in Robert Plant’s Band of Joy with a co-write on R&B star Anthony Hamilton’s new recording, “Save Me,” the opening track on “What I’m Feelin.” Over the past two years Darrell has produced, co-written and performed on three songs from Zac Brown’s latest project “Heavy Is the Head,” in addition to producing Jonathan Edwards latest and Malcolm Holcombe’s upcoming 2017 release, “Pretty Little Troubles.” But these partnerships all makes sense: Although they hail from different genres, these artists are master craftsmen at fitting words to notes.
Witness his ability to make just about any instrument talk, listen to his vocals and songwriting to hear him contain every emotion between joy and pain within one verse in his singing and in his pen. Nowadays he’s taking the outsider role even more seriously; after 23 years in Nashville he spent the last year devoting himself to a self-sufficient lifestyle in the country while simultaneously putting together his best album in years.
