Join us for an unforgettable evening celebrating the historic Milestone Club, the “CBGB of the South,” and its impact on music culture. How to Save a Milestone documents the fight to save this legendary venue, where icons like Nirvana, R.E.M., and the Violent Femmes began their careers.
Doors open at 7 p.m., with the film screening from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., followed by a short Q&A with Milestone alums, and a short performance by the incredible ANDY THE DOORBUM. This is a seated event, providing time to socialize, reminisce, and discuss the importance of supporting independent music venues.
Bullington Gardens is known for our expansive collection of dahlias. Each year our volunteer dahlia crew work tirelessly to ensure we have the best crop possible. These amazing plants take quite a bit of work to be successful, and it starts with dividing your tuber. Join Kim Biggerstaff and Isaac Wyatt as we walk through the culture of dahlias. We will also have a tuber dividing demo after the class. Participants will get a chance to divide a clump of tubers and take one home!

Did you miss our first Awe Walk on Sunday, August 4? Our next walk will be Sunday September 7th from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and we will continue to meet on the first Sunday of each month for the following two months (last day is November 2 – don’t forget to turn your clocks back the night before!). The walks will begin at the Garden Entry at Hatcher Garden, located beside the Jess Taylor Pavilion, and will move about the garden to experience the feeling of awe in nature.
Each month, we’ll explore one of the five key processes associated with the experience of awe, which support overall well-being:
-
Shifts in neurophysiology
-
A diminished focus on the self
-
Increased prosocial behavior and relational connection
-
Greater sense of social integration
-
A heightened sense of meaning
Led by Executive Director Dan Shook and his wife and yoga instructor Kristin Shook, each walk will offer time for reflection, connection with nature, and insights into how the Garden supports these powerful emotional and psychological benefits.
Come walk with us—and discover the wonder.
