The Warehouse Theatre Presents Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman’s “Assassins” Through June 23rd

Sometimes we must explore the darkness to understand the light.  Tony Award-winning musical Assassins from iconic composer Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman “riffs” through the lives of nine men and women who either killed – or tried to kill – a President of the United States.

From John Wilkes Booth to Lee Harvey Oswald and beyond, the stories of our country’s most notorious assassins intersect in unexpected ways, creating a powerful, funny, yet unnerving look at some of the most shocking and unforgettable moments in US history and the harrowing lengths some will go to pursue the American Dream.

“For our 50th anniversary I wanted to end the season with a show that feels undeniably ‘The Warehouse,’” said Producing Artistic Director Mike Sablone.  “A darkly funny, actor-driven musical written by the greatest composer of our lifetime is right up our alley.  It’s smart, it’s bold, it’s clever, and it’s a rare chance to see one of Sondheim’s lesser-known masterpieces.”

This production at The Warehouse Theatre reunites the theatre with Andrew Scoville who directed their box office hits BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON (2018) and HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH (2020).  Fresh from his Associate Director work on Broadway’s Tony-nominated HERE LIES LOVE, Scoville is joined by a familiar group of artists on the production team including Michael J. Riha (THE GLASS MENAGERIE, RICHARD III), Maranda DeBusk (THE CRUCIBLE, KILL CORP), Jessica Johnson (ALL MY SONS, KILL CORP), Jim Breitmeier (HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH, GOD OF CARNAGE), Shari Tingle (THE LEHMAN TRILOGY, APPROPRIATE), Ben Hobbs (BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON), B Strife (THE LEHMAN TRILOGY, TROUBLE IN MIND), Jaime Keegstra (PIPELINE, EURYDICE), and music director Julie Florin (THE 25th ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE).

The cast features a mix of longtime Warehouse performers and local artists making their main stage Warehouse debut:   Andrew Anderson (Warehouse debut), Aaron Brakefield (PRIDE & PREJUDICE, GOD OF CARNAGE), Kelly Davis (Warehouse debut), Abby Gilbert (ODD, THE WOLVES), Matt Giles (Warehouse debut), Wesley Hudson (KILL CORP, THE 25th…SPELLING BEE), Abigail Hunt (Warehouse debut), Jason D. Johnson (THE CRUCIBLE, RICHARD III), K. Ray Jones (BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON, SPRING AWAKENING), Austin J. Kara (TROUBLE IN MIND, THE LEGEND OF GEORGIA MCBRIDE), Tinasha LaRayé (TWELFTH NIGHT), Aaron Pennington (Warehouse debut), and Drew Whitley (THE GLASS MENAGERIE, BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON).

The musical contains mature content and a live orchestra.
