SCDOT Meeting on Church Street Bridge Set for April 16th

The public is invited to an informational meeting on the Church Street bridge improvements that will begin in early 2025.

State Department of Transportation (SCDOT) officials will be available from 5 pm to 7 pm on Tuesday, April 16, at the St. George Greek Orthodox Church Hellenic Center, 406 N. Academy St., to provide a project update.

The drop-in style meeting offers residents the opportunity to view construction phasing plans, alternative routes, detour routes and traffic impacts associated with the anticipated year-long project. The work will be done in phases and is expected to take 12 to 14 months to complete. Traffic over the bridge will be reduced to one lane in both directions for the majority of the work. However, a six-week full closure will be required to complete the bridge deck.

Bridge improvements include:

  • Repairs to bridge deck, piers and drainage system
  • Expansion of west sidewalk to nine feet
  • New overhead and pedestal lighting
  • New railings
  • Replacement of stairs leading to McBee Avenue
