Improvements Coming to Hundreds of Greenlink Bus Stops

The Greenville Transit Authority was awarded $5,845,300 from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s RAISE (Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity) program to improve bus stops.

Amenities will include a mix of shelters, push button lighting and benches at more than 300 bus stops in Greenville and across Greenville County. The goal of the project is to improve the experience public transit customers have and to encourage more people to ride Greenlink buses.

U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg announced the more than $2.2 billion in RAISE program awards. View the full list of awards

According to the USDOT, projects were evaluated on several criteria, including safety, environmental sustainability, quality of life, economic competitiveness and opportunity, partnership and collaboration, innovation, state of good repair, and mobility and community connectivity. Within these areas, the Department considered how projects will improve accessibility for all travelers, bolster supply chain efficiency, and support racial equity and economic growth – especially in historically disadvantaged communities and areas of persistent poverty.
