City of Greenville Receives Energy Grant to Install Solar Photovoltaic System on the David Hellams Community Center

The Energy Office has announced awards for its fiscal year 2021 annual Mini-Grant Program. Out of the 49 applications received, 7 were chosen to receive a $10,000 grant for high-impact demonstration projects in the areas of energy efficiency, renewable energy, and clean transportation.

In recognition of the need for increased funding during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Energy Office was able to double the total funding for this year’s program. Funds are provided through the US Department of Energy’s State Energy Program.

City of Greenville
The City of Greenville will purchase and install a solar photovoltaic (PV) system on the David Hellams Community Center.

Benedict College
Benedict College will purchase a used electric vehicle and install a charging station for their campus police.

Clemson University
Clemson University will design, build, and install a control system to operate motorized blinds in the atrium of the Watt Family Innovation Center.

College of Charleston
The College of Charleston will construct a “solar shade” structure in the Rivers Green outdoor area.

Lee School District
Lee School District will replace existing metal halide parking lot fixtures at Lee Central High School and Lee Central Middle School with high-efficiency light-emitting diode (LED) fixtures.

Richland School District Two
Richland School District Two will purchase equipment to expand production, analytical capabilities, and marketing of their Bengal Biodiesel program.

York School District One
York School District One will retrofit metal halide fixtures with LED lamps in the Cotton Belt Elementary School and Jefferson Elementary School gymnasiums.
