Camille Thurman and Darrell Green Trio with Wynton Marsalis
May 1 @ 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm
The Jazz Garden Tent at Romare Bearden Park

Watch and listen as Camille Thurman joins forces with The Darrell Green Trio and jazz legend Wynton Marsalis to kick off the 2019 Charlotte Jazz Festival with an unforgettable night of entertainment in The Jazz Garden Tent at Romare Bearden Park!

Acclaimed by Downbeat Magazine as a “rising star” singer with “soulful inflection and remarkable, Fitzgerald-esque scat prowess” and hailed by All About Jazz as a “first class saxophonist that blows the proverbial roof of the place”, Camille Thurman has been amazing audiences throughout the world with her impeccable sound, remarkable vocal virtuosity and captivating artistry. Many have praised her vocal abilities to the likeness of Ella Fitzgerald and Betty Carter. Her lush, rich & warm sound on the tenor saxophone has led others to compare her to tenor greats Joe Henderson and Dexter Gordon.

Over a career that has spanned more than two decades Oakland, California native Darrell Green has become a master drummer and prolific sideman, sharing stages with leading jazz artists; from Blue Note vibraphonist Stefon Harris to saxophonist Red Holloway. Though jazz is his primary focus, Green is conversant in every genre from straight-ahead jazz to Latin and West African music.

Spartanburg Earth Day Festival
May 4 @ 10:00 am – 3:00 pm
Spartanburg Earth Day Festival

The Spartanburg Earth Day Festival (SEDF) builds community, celebrates the many gifts we receive from Earth, and inspires our citizens to care for our planet. SEDF seeks to include Spartanburg County’s diverse population, engaging all people in appreciation of and concern for our environment and natural resources. Our intent is to educate our community about the fragileness of our planet, the interdependency of people and resources in preserving viable, life-sustaining eco-systems, and to enhance awareness of the role each individual can play in protecting and sustaining our planet. The festival itself is striving to become a zero-waste event with broad community appeal and participation. We accomplish these goals through education, the arts, and hands-on experiences.

Well… how about in May, and in a brewery that’s real, real, close?

May the 4th be with you!

We’re doing something special this year for Star Wars Day! A day long mini-con in the Brewery.

Put together your best Star Wars costume and come out to the Brewery for a fun day of socializing with only the best of Star Wars Geeks.

From open to close, all the folks from The Social Club Tattoo Studio will be in the Mezzanine doing flash Star Wars tattoos. Ranging from $50 to $150 dollars… and all Star Wars!
https://www.facebook.com/HendoSocial/

Beth Revis, author of Rebel Rising, the prequel to the movie Rogue One will be on site, signing books, and talking to folks who are interested in writing and what it’s like for her to be a part of the Star Wars franchise. Beth will also be judging the Star Wars Costume Contest. Here is Beth’s Amazon Author’s Page:
https://www.amazon.com/Beth-Revis/e/B004AFJ318

The Blibbering Humdingers will take the stage in the Beer Garden at 8pm. They have put together several Star Wars songs for us, along with their standard fair of Harry Potter tunes! You can check out more info about the Blibbering Humdingers on their Facebook page:

The game masters from Bearded Dragon’s Inn have cancelled gaming for the day. Sorry about that. But we picked up a bunch of star wars themed board games from trivial pursuit to battleship and will have them on the tables all day long.

The fine folks from the Figures Sold Seperately Podcast will be setting up in the Taphouse to record a podcast. FSS goes to all kinds of great local, regional and national events, from conventions and festivals to movie premieres and more… and now they’re coming to Triskelion!

Fr8yard

Come watch the Kentucky Derby on the biggest TV in Spartanburg and be sure to stick around for one of the most exciting live music events of the spring!

ABOUT THE VEGABONDS

With a sound reminiscent of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers mixed with the grit and twang of the Allman Brothers Band, The Vegabonds deliver a sensational performance, with powerhouse guitar riffs and impactful songwriting, night after night. Their hard work and unbridled talents have not gone unnoticed; the group has opened for such notable acts as Lynyrd Skynyrd and the late Gregg Allman and delivered rousing performances at festivals like Peach Festival, Sweetwater 420, Magnolia Fest, Sunfest and Taste of Randolph.

In addition to countless dates throughout the Southeast, the band has toured Europe three times, played multiple dates in Canada and have visited every corner of the US.

A group of five musicians with myriad influences between them, The Vegabonds are fronted by lead vocalist and songwriter Daniel Allen, with Richard Forehand (lead guitar/vocals), Paul Bruens (bass), Beau Cooper (keys/vocals), and Bryan Harris (drums) rounding out the quintet.

The Blibbering Humdingers Live at Triskelion
May 4 @ 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm
Triskelion Brewing Company

The Blibbering Humdingers have agreed to come play some Star Wars songs (among other songs related to nerd/geek culture) for us on Star Wars Day!

Here’s a bit about them from their website:

Neo-retro existential wizard nerd pop with a dash of do-wop, a sprinkle of steampunk and nibble of new wave. A “sound” you ask? Genre? Pishaw! We don’t have a sound other than laughter and the sound of magic and the sound of one hand clapping because your other arm has been gnawed off by piranhas.

These magical masters of musical hi-jinx and mayhem will wizard rock the tea towel right off your house elf! They draw inspiration from the Harry Potter series, Dr Who, the SCA, medieval fantasy, science fiction and all kinds of delightfully, geeky fandomness.

Scott & Kirsten Vaughan began performing together in 1992 in the SCA, where they are known as Master Efenwealt Wystle and Maîtresse Aénor d’Anjou. With the release of ‘Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows’ in 2007, and upon encountering bands like Draco & the Malfoys, The Mudbloods, and The Moaning Myrtles they decided to form their own wizard rock act. They live in Cary, NC (under the name Sanderz) with two kids and a cat named Rosemerta. (That’s the cat’s name. It would just be silly to give both our kids the same name as the cat!)

They mostly perform at at Harry Potter, Filk and SciFi/Fantasy conventions along the east coast but also do libraries, bars and private parties. Some of the bigger shows they’ve played include Portus, ConCarolinas, LeakyCon, Infinitus, MarsCon, Ohio Valley Filk Festival, GA-Filk, Dragon*Con the Quidditch World Cup, the NYC Wizard Rock Festival, Wrockstock and LeakyCon London in 2013 (what a thrill!). Anybody want to bring them to Seattle? San Diego? LA? Germany perhaps?
