Shane Pruitt hails from Spartanburg, SC, where the musical roots of the blues and southern rock have been living and breathing for years on end. Hammond B3 player and vocalist Lil’ Jimmy Peterman is a founding member of the Steve Miller Band (1967-1969), having also been a founding member of the Steve Miller Blues Band (featuring Steve Miller and Bozz Scaggs’ original collaboration).

ABOUT TIM BLACKWELL

A Spartanburg, South Carolina native and an honor graduate of the Percssion Institute of Technology at Musician’s Institute in Hollywood, California as well as the University of Sounth Carolina Upstate, Tim is a devoted student of drums with more than 25 years of playing and recording experience.

“Music She Wrote” offers a program of music entirely by women composers. Fanny Mendelssohn, sister of famed composer Felix Mendelssohn, was an accomplished composer during a time when society was not ready to embrace the fact that women could write music as equally significant as their male counterparts. Her String Quartet from 1834 is a testament to her enduring brilliance.

Florence Beatrice Price was the first African-American woman to have her music played by a major orchestra. Her “Five Folk Songs in Counterpoint” is an imaginative reframing from 1951 of old American spirituals for string quartet.

Two living women composers are also featured on this program: Polish-American Dosia McKay’s “Grit and Glitz” for String Quartet and recent Pulitzer Prize winner Caroline Shaw’s “Entr’acte.”
