2019 Spartanburg Soaring! International Kite Festival
Apr 13 @ 11:00 am – 5:00 pm
Barnet Park

Join us for live music, great food trucks, a makers market, live street performers, and plenty of kids activities! Better yet, it’s FREE! This year’s presenting sponsor is Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport

In spring 2014, Chapman Cultural Center launched a community-wide initiative called Spartanburg Soaring! to encourage creativity, promote healthy outdoor activity, and to build civic pride. Using kites as a common theme, Spartanburg Soaring! engaged cultural curiosity and promoted active play through activities and events all across the city. The kite festival takes place in and around the Chapman Cultural Center each spring when hundreds of colorful kites fill the skies above Spartanburg. Every year, the festival grows, so be sure to attend this year and make Spartanburg Soaring! International Kite Festival the highest-flying event yet!

The festival is free and open to all, including the many international kite flyers who have come from Europe, Asia, Canada, and across the United States to join the fun. Kites will be available for purchase or you can bring a kite from home.

Here’s what to expect at Spartanburg Soaring!:

Kids Zone! – We’re proud to announce the Spartanburg Soaring! Makers Market! – Another of Spartanburg’s great assets is its artists. Everything will be affordable and locally handcrafted. Check out the full list of vendors: https://www.chapmanculturalcenter.org/spartanburg-soaring

Food Vendors! – Another reason to stop by Spartanburg Soaring! is all of the amazing food vendors who will be attending the festival! This year’s vendors include: Growler Haus – Spartanburg, Hub City Scoops, The Farmer’s Table, PIG on FIRE BBQ, Java Up, The Streatery and One Love Fusion Foods!

Community Organizations! – What makes Spartanburg Soaring! so great? It’s the collaborative nature of the festival! This year we have plenty of Community Organizations stopping by the festival to make sure there is something everyone can enjoy! Community Organizations participating include: Spartanburg Earth Day Festival Hatcher Garden and Woodland Preserve, The Logos Theatre, Spartanburg Area Conservancy, and Spartanburg Swing!

Come join in the celebratory cavorting that will be our 25th Anniversary Season! It’s hard to believe we’ve been running through Falls Park in Greenville all of these years and audiences keep coming back year after year! In fact, this festival continues bring back actors, designers, production staff and volunteers because they know the USF is the most unique and fun way to spend a summer.

Our 2019 Season is:

The Tempest (July 11 to August 4)
All roles are currently available.

To make an appointment to audition or for more information, please call 864.787.4016. In order to audition, please prepare a Shakespearean monologue of no longer than one minute. Bring along a head shot and resume, if you don’t have one that is not a deal breaker.

If you are a USF veteran, please know you are invited to come to the callback evenings.

Callbacks for Romeo and Juliet will be on April 14, 3-6ish
Callbacks for The Tempest will be on April 15, 7-10ish
All callbacks will take place at 211 Eisenhower Dr, Greenville, SC

If you are still a student and a veteran, you are required to schedule an audition appointment and prepare a monologue. That’s how we get to see how much you have learned and improved since we last met.

In honor of the anniversary year, we will also be scheduling other events throughout the season. Stay tuned to this page for further information.

If you know of anyone who might wish to join our merry band of Festivians, please feel free to add them to this invite.
