Join Jesse Pope, executive director of the Grandfather Mountain Stewardship Foundation, for this six-hour course on raptor migration. In 2015, more than 11,000 raptors were observed in September as they soared over Grandfather Mountain on their annual migration south. Learn why they do this – and become an official “watcher” yourself.
This Adult Field Course is limited to 12 participants and costs $40 for general admission, $20 for Bridge Club members. To register, or for more information, email [email protected], or call (828) 733-2013.
Grandfather Mountain’s Adult Field Courses invite participants to examine specific aspects of the park ecosystem through just the right combination of fun field excursions and classroom presentations. Our course leaders are experts in their fields and include professors, naturalists and scientists, as well as acclaimed photographers, writers, historians and artists. Most courses run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and lunch will be eaten in the field. Please bring your own lunch. Rates do not include taxes.

From the convivial spirit of attendees and their support of the artists to extras like local food and a free photo booth, Indie Craft Parade is a celebration of all things handcrafted.”

National Geographic, The National Audobon Society, and over 150 other organizations have declared 2018 the Year of the Bird. This is to commemorate the Migratory Bird Treaty Act’s 100th year! Lake Conestee Nature Park is well known in the birding community for it’s diverse array of bird species. To date we have counted 219 different species of birds in the park; most of which are migratory species. To help celebrate this milestone in conservation and to bring awareness to the birds at LCNP we will have several bird related public programs this fall. We hope you will join us!
The first of our programs to celebrate birds will be an art in nature experience! This is an instructional painting class like you would find at the “Wine and Design” places around Greenville (alcohol not permitted). Samantha will walk you through the painting stroke by stroke so no artistic experience is necessary! Check back to this event page for a picture of the painting Samantha has chosen for us to do.
