Bonnamoo: Music, Food, and Farms
May 16 @ 5:00 pm – 11:00 pm
Spartanburg Area Conservancy

SPACE and Thicketty Mountain Farms are thrilled to announce a new spring fundraising event: “Bonnamoo,” a celebration of music, food, and farms on SPACE’s own beautiful Cleveland Preserve Farm. We’ve wanted to showcase this 300-acre conserved farm in North Spartanburg for a long time and Bonnamoo is the perfect opportunity.

This is a two-part event, all guests will enjoy a fun and energetic concert in a beautiful field. Taking the stage first will be Spartanburg’s own Shane Pruitt Band. Living and breathing the blues and gospel, the Shane Pruitt Band embodies a regional tradition while bringing its original tone and flare to every performance. They’ll warm the stage up nicely for our headliner: Southern Culture on the Skids (SCOTS)! SCOTS has been consistently recording and touring around the world since 1983. Their music has been featured in movies and TV, and their legendary live shows are a testament to the therapeutic powers of foot-stomping, butt-shaking rock-and-roll. We’re over the moon that this powerful line-up makes up our inaugural Bonnamoo concert. Tickets to the concert are $20 in advance and can be purchased here: https://bonnamoo2019concertscots.eventbrite.com. ($25 day-of).

SPACE has a long springtime tradition of hosting an exquisite fundraising dinner. While the venue and vibe are changing this year, guests who wish to be wowed with a unique culinary experience are in for a treat. Well-known Spartanburg chefs William and Jamie Cribb are orchestrating a farm-to-table experience that won’t soon be forgotten. They’re sourcing local ingredients from their friends at Full Circle Farm, Lilly Mae’s Organics, and @ColonialMilling to craft a delicious four course meal with wine pairings by Greg Atkins. Featured on the menu will be grass-fed, sustainably raised beef from Thicketty Mountain Farms, Spartanburg’s only organic cattle farm, whose home is SPACE’s own Cleveland Preserve Farm. Guests to the dinner will enjoy live music by Janeen Scott before the Shane Pruitt Band takes the stage. Tickets for the farm-to-table dinner are $125 and include entry to the concert. (Purchase here: https://bonnamoo2019farm-to-tabledinnerandconcert.eventbrite.com

We’re grateful to Pacolet Milliken, our headlining sponsor as well as The Johnson Group, ALINE Interactive, Atlas Organics, Budweiser of Spartanburg, Cannon Roofing, Cassell Electric, Cedar Spring Family Dentistry, Green Paper Products, McMillan Pazdan Smith, the Milliken Foundation, Morgan Corps, and Skye Webster. This event is made possible by our sponsors. Also thanks to WNCW, our media sponsor.

“Preserving the Spartanburg region’s farmland and supporting sustainable, local food systems is an important part of our work at SPACE,” notes SPACE Executive Director Andrew Waters. “We’re excited to feature our own conserved farm, the beautiful Cleveland Preserve, at this new fundraising event, and to showcase the sustainable farming practices of our partners at Thicketty Mountain Farms. Most of all we’re excited to offer such a rockin’ musical lineup!”

For the April ArtWalk we will be having a LIVE Forge by Aaron Troski of Noble Savage Forge, LIVE painting by Stephanie Wright and featuring the artwork of Ansley Painter and Robin Turner.

Aaron Troski Noble Savage Forge was founded in 2016 by Aaron Troski. With a lifelong passion for old world craftsmanship, he decided to learn the art of smithing. Using his skills in metal and woodworking, he crafts knives and other creations in a number of mediums. All of his pieces are made with a desire to create “functional art”that is to be inspiring, creative, and used.

Stephanie Wright is a local artist and the founder of Art4life. She believes every person can use art for a better life and provides a way to do that in her workshops. Stephanie has specialized in murals and has traveled to successfully complete over 30 murals in homes and business She also does portraits and commissioned Illustrations. You can check out more of her artwork at Art4lifeSW.org.

Robin Turner is an artist of many mediums, from photography to acrylic paintings to pencil and ink, or mixed media. She began drawing at age 7, turning things like greeting cards upside down and reproducing them, or just sketching anything that came to mind. In high school, she studied drawing intensively both in the art classroom and in the drafting classroom. She worked as a drafter for a short period during her senior year of high school. Subsequent to that, she was in the U.S. Navy for a few years, and then had a family. In the 90’s, she got her Associate’s degree in Mechanical Drafting, and worked as a drafter for a time. In 2015, she got her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, and while working on that, studied art at UNC Asheville. She went to work in sales and marketing, and began to experiment with writing, as well as to dabble in many mediums. She even self-published a children’s book, but her focus was photography for a few years, and her favorite subject to study was water. Her most recent discovery of the joy of abstract and non-representational art has led to her latest body of work. Primarily acrylic on canvas, the work features bold, bright colors, plenty of texture, and movement. She seeks to explore and convey themes of psychology, positive thinking, and motivation in her work, which she shares on her “bringingspring” instagram account using the hashtag #brightenyourwalls. She has just recently begun showing and selling her work, and hopes to contribute a little brightness and positivity to the life of every viewer and collector.

The Ballad of Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow Screening
May 16 @ 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm
HUB-BUB

Join us as we say farewell to Artist-in-Residence Marisa Adesman and take a look at her work! For the past year, Marisa has been working on filming and editing “The Ballad of Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow,” which she will be debuting in London this fall. Join us for a screening, artist talk, and reception to celebrate Marisa’s work before she leaves for London in June.

“My film, The Ballad of Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow, made in collaboration with artist Christian Ruiz Berman, will be shown at Elephant West in London this coming Fall 2019. The story is partly an interpretation of the Bluebeard myth (an ancient parable of female empowerment), and centers around themes of mythology, magic, and human connection. Bluebeard, a wealthy prince in the tales, is replaced by “Bluebeard Farms” — a lifestyle brand that employs and henceforth traps women to be ideal spokeswomen. Our film bridges dance, poetry, narrative film, and satire to explore the ways that digital technology and lifestyle branding can create illusions that negate freedom and self-expression. The women in the film must ultimately join forces in order to escape their parallel universe and become self-realized.” – Marisa Adesman

Reception: Thursday, May 16th, 5 – 8 PM
Artist Talk and Screening: 6:00 PM inside Chapman Cultural Center (West Wing Conference Room)

Wine Class: Spanish Wines & Paella
May 16 @ 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm
Joe's Place Bookstore

Vintners have been making wine in Spain for more than 3,000 years. But, because of the presence of a military dictatorship, most people outside of the country were unfamiliar with the regions and varietals of Spain. Since the fall of that regime in the 1970’s, industrious winemakers have worked to return Spanish wines to the international stage.

Today, Spanish wines are known as both delicious and a great value. This month, we open up the joys of the Iberian peninsula to you; one glass at a time. Join us for five vinos excelentes and paella by Daniel Lopez, owner of Time to Taste Catering.

The cost of $40 includes food, wines, and the knowledge you’ll gain to impress your friends!

Reservations are required for this event so we can be sure to have plenty of food! Call or stop by the store by Friday (5/10) evening to reserve your spot. Payment is due at the time of your reservation.
