The Aspen String Trio

Fri. Jan. 19, 2018 | 7:30 pm

The Aspen String TrioAbout The Aspen String Trio

The Aspen String Trio is one of the rare professional string trios performing and touring today. Summer faculty colleagues at the Aspen Festival and School, AST members have been playing together for more than twenty years: violinist David Perry, violist Victoria Chiang, and cellist Mike Mermagen.

Celebrated for virtuoso performance offered with humor and insight, AST performs the complete trios of Beethoven, Mozart, and Schubert, as well as lesser known blockbuster works by Dohnanyi, Hindemith, Martinů, Rozsa, Gideon Klein, Veress, Villa-Lobos and Ysaÿe, among others.

Recent engagements include the Los Angeles Music Guild and the National Gallery of Art, as well as residencies in Texas, Georgia, the Carolinas, Alabama, Delaware, Washington and Colorado. For six seasons AST was Ensemble-in-Residence at the University of Baltimore. During the 2017-2018 season the trio’s tours include concert engagements and teaching residencies throughout Iowa, Georgia, South Carolina, and New York, often collaborating with host colleagues on piano quintets and quartets, and string sextets.

As teaching faculty at distinguished universities and conservatories, Trio members are committed to incorporating educational components into all residencies. In addition to standard masterclasses, they offer a unique variety of classes and workshops covering topics such as The Business of Music, Poetry, Creative Writing, and Management, all developed to address aspects of students’ professional lives, and to tie in Classical Music with other areas of their study.

LOLLIPOPS: THE BREMEN TOWN MUSICIANS
Jan 20 @ 10:00 am

10:00 am: Hendricks Library, Simpsonville
11:30 am: Hughes Main Library, Greenville

Featuring the GSO Wind Quintet

ADMISSION IS FREE!

Needing a change of pace, a donkey heads to Bremen from his farm home in search of the life of a musician.  On his journey, he encounters a dog, a cat, and a rooster.  They become unlikely friends, and the pack travels together to Bremen to join the Town Band.  Their expedition creates lovely friendships as they face unpredictable obstacles together.  The GSO Wind Quintet, together with a reading by SCCT Principal Teaching Artist Traysie Amick, will bring these diverse friends to life.

Lollipops concerts introduce children to classical music and the instruments of the orchestra through interactive concerts presented by members of the Greenville Symphony Orchestra.  During each concert, chamber ensembles accompany a storybook reading.  And, of course, audience members receive a lollipop at the end of each performance!

Lollipops concerts are appropriate for children ages 2 to 7, although all children and adults are welcome.  Programs last approximately 30 minutes.  Reservations are not required and admission is free.

Lollipops is sponsored by BMW Manufacturing Co.

Take It to the Next Level: Sankalpa, Yin & Tapas with Liz
Jan 20 @ 2:00 pm

Take It to the Next Level: Sankalpa, Yin & Tapas with Liz

January 20, 2018

This will be the first class in our once a month series- Take It to the Next Level.  Join Liz for a one of a kind event to kick off your commitment to yoga as a practice of self-transformation.  Sankalpa is the Sanskrit word for intention.  Yin relates to the spirit of quiet, internal listening, and the state of being.  Tapas is a Sanskrit word that loosely translated means “burning zeal.”  In this class you will create a personal intention and we will move through practice based on this intention.  The Yin and Tapas practices are very similar in that you will hold poses (both standing and on the floor) for longer periods of time (think 5 minutes or more).  Some of these times will feel uncomfortable. Can you stay through the inevitable discomfort?  Can you learn to respond versus react?  Can you bake this intention into your cells through the duration of this class?  This is a unique practice that Liz only offers once per year.  Don’t miss out on the fun!

time: 2-4pm

cost: $20 (free to Inspired Path Members)
