——————-
ARTIST BIOS
——————-
Nava Lubelski was born and raised in New York City and is living currently in Asheville, NC. Lubelski’s work has been included in several exhibitions at the Museum of Arts & Design in Manhattan and has been shown at the Mint Museum of Art, Charlotte, NC (where it is part of the permanent collection); the San Diego Museum of Art; the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney, Australia; SECCA, in Winston-Salem, NC; the Weatherspoon Art Museum in Greensboro, NC; and the Queens Museum of Art in Queens, NY. She has had solo shows with LMAKprojects in New York, OH&T Gallery in Boston, Luis de Jesus in Los Angeles and P|M Gallery in Toronto. Additional group exhibitions have included venues in Stockholm and Berlin. Lubelski’s work has been reviewed in The New York Times, Art Forum, ArtNews and The Village Voice, among other publications. She has received grants from The Pollock-Krasner Foundation, the New York Foundation for the Arts and the North Carolina Arts Council. Lubelski received a degree in Russian Literature & History from Wesleyan University and spent a year as a student in Moscow, Russia.
——————-
Sonia Norris is a self taught artist living in Asheville, NC. A long time collector of buttons, driftwood, fabric scraps, rusty metal, and all things she sees new purpose in. She takes great pleasure in making old, new, with stitches dyes and prints, often times in incorporating found objects into her art. She weaves media together to create unique textile pieces. She is a self taught printmaker focusing on linoleum cut blocks and has been enjoying combining printmaking and textiles.
——————-
Courtney Chappell is a visual artist living in Asheville, NC. She creates paintings, drawings, installations and videos that explore individuals’ relationships with large-scale, global events. After becoming a mother, she became interested in her maternal family member’s relationship with sewing, mending and embroidery.

Courtney attended Florida State University and University of North Carolina Asheville and holds a MFA from Western Carolina University.
——————-
Lauren Whitley is interested in the moments of dissociation that create memory. Peripheral information found between elements is the content. Her work mainly comes from dreams, memories, and writing. The writings are visual sketches of places that she thematically finds herself, a particular symbolic code made from the combination of emotion/intuition and a place.

NDMS Exercise
May 7 @ 7:00 am – 5:00 pm
Spartanburg County Community Emergency Response Team

The NDMS exercise is a unique opportunity for our members to offer their assistance in a multi-agency exercise headed up by the US Army. Since many of our members also have disaster animal response training, ham radio, litter bearer training, and can patient act with the best of them, this volunteer opportunity is ideal for many. We hope some of our members, who are afforded the time to take off work for one day, will consider doing so. As always, thanks for all you do.
