State Officials Prepare for Hurricane Erin

Hurricane Erin remains out in the Atlantic, bringing high surf, dangerous rip currents, beach erosion, and possible coastal flooding at high tide along South Carolina’s coast.

Its large size is forecast to yield large waves along the SC coastline, with a high risk of rip currents on SC beaches the next couple of days. If you are heading to the coast this week, follow all safety advice

The risk for rip currents is expected to continue over the next several days.

Rip currents are powerful, fast-moving channels of water that can pull swimmers away from shore into deeper water. They are difficult to spot, and many beachgoers don’t realize the danger.
