A key approval by state health officials means plans for a new Greenville hospital will move forward.
The South Carolina Department of Public Health approved a Certificate of Need application from Novant Health, a Winston-Salem-based health care system, for a 20-bed hospital on Patewood Drive. Located between the Haywood Road and Roper Mountain Road exits off I-385, the facility will be outpatient-focused and offer specialty services, operating rooms and diagnostic imaging. The hospital will sit on an 11.5-acre site with room to expand.
Novant plans to open the facility in 2027.
“This approval represents a meaningful milestone for Novant Health and the communities we are honored to serve in the Upstate,” said Jason Bernd, senior vice president, Novant Health, president of the South Carolina Region. “As one of the fastest-growing areas in the state, Greenville deserves expanded access to high-quality care close to home. This new hospital will allow us to deliver on that promise for patients who live in Greenville and the surrounding communities.”
The Novant Health network includes nearly 900 locations across North and South Carolina, including 19 hospitals and more than 750 physician clinics, urgent care centers, outpatient facilities and imaging and pharmacy services. The health care system has 41,000 employees and 8,600 independent and employed clinicians.
