The Greenville Gay Men’s Chorus will present Sing For The Cure, a major choral/orchestral work, at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28 at the Peace Center’s Gunter Theatre in downtown Greenville. Tickets are now available through the Peace Center Box Office.

The performance will feature the 35-member men’s chorus in collaboration with the Greenville Chamber Singers and members of the Greenville Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Shelton Ridge Love. Greenville Poet Laureate Glenis Redmond will narrate.

Since its commissioning for the Susan G. Komen Foundation and Dallas premier in 2000, Sing For The Cure has been performed hundreds of times worldwide. The eleven song choral collection features orchestra and narration, expressing the kaleidoscope of experiences and emotions surrounding the disease.
According to Artistic Director Shelton Ridge Love, the Chorus sees the work as a fitting extension of the GGMC mission to build community: “because most everyone is touched in some way by breast cancer, we are pleased to celebrate advances that have been made in detection and treatment. We honor both the survivors and those we’ve lost to the disease.”

Community choruses nationwide will present Sing For The Cure over the coming months, marking 25 years since its premier. In November, these groups will gather in New York City to mount a 250-voice production at Lincoln Center.

Kathy LaTour, a breast cancer survivor who was part of the original production in Dallas, says of the work, “The music is amazing and swings the audience from the joy of life to the pain of loss and back again.”
