Felsie Harris, president of the Haynie-Sirrine neighborhood association for more than twenty years, was recently honored with a street dedication.
Mayor Knox White declared Harris Street, in the Haynie-Sirrine neighborhood, to be renamed in honor of Harris.
Harris blazed a trail for community activism, playing an integral part in preserving the character of her neighborhood — along with creating a neighborhood green space, a community garden and advocating for affordable housing.
“She’s been a voice for the people that have lived here all their lives, as well as those who haven’t lived here very long,” said Becky Warth of the Haynie-Sirrine Neighborhood Association. “She’s been a role model for me, and a friend. She cares about her neighborhood.”
